Now that Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition has managed to get an R18+ rating in Australia, Warner Bros has decided to give the mature rated PS3 and Xbox fighting game a release date. It will hit Australia on May 1 and will be priced at $39.95.
The re-release of Mortal Kombat was originally rejected by the Australian government's ratings classification board and effectively banned because it passed the threshold of violence and gore for the highest rating at the time. But with the new R18+ ratings category in all regions in the country games that are meant for adults can now be sold in the country.
The game was one of Australia's most high-profile titles to be refused a rating and banned from sale, with the board denying the first two submissions on the grounds that it contained "explicit" violence, blood spray, and limb dismemberment during fatalities - all unsuitable descriptors under the MA15+ guidelines.
Australia introduced an adult R18+ classification for video games at the start of 2013.
