Electronic Arts released a short statement today confirming that layoffs are happening across the company on a worldwide basis, but did not give any specific details on any of its decisions in the last month:
"In recent weeks, EA has aligned all elements of its organizational structure behind priorities in new technologies and mobile. This has led to some difficult decisions to reduce the workforce in some locations. We are extremely grateful for the contributions made by each of our employees – those that are leaving EA will be missed by their colleagues and friends."
The company went on to say that the choices they are making are "hard" but essential to "showing players around the world why to spend their time with us."
Of course, some decent customer service, a better bedside manner, and not having a tin ear when it comes to complaints would go a lot farther than firing a bunch of employees. EA's previous statement on the series of worldwide layoffs indicated that the company was restructuring to get ready for the next console cycle, so this latest statement is kind of odd.

Re: EA Acknowledges Layoffs in Statement, Avoids Numbers
Can I have 2008 EA back, please? They were still releasing stuff on Steam, mostly Securom free, and they were about to release Dead Space and Mirror's Edge, two games from the school of "just give some teams some money and see what sticks".

"Avoids numbers" Generally code for "Yeah, it's pretty bad"
