Runic Games announced that its popular role-playing game for the PC, Torchlight II, is well, pretty popular. Since its launch the game has sold over two million copies. Given that the game was highlighted prominently in the recent Steam Summer Getaway Sale, this announcement is not surprising, though clearly all of those copies did not sell for the full regular price. The game was released in September of 2012.
"We are overwhelmed by the reception for Torchlight 2. To hit this milestone is a testament not only to our dedicated development team, but also to the greatest, most positive gaming community I’ve ever seen," said CEO Max Schaefer in the announcement for this milestone. "I’d just like to say a big thank you to all the players who offered their suggestions on what we could improve, and who stuck with us and supported us during development. It wouldn’t have been possible without you, and we’re humbled and grateful at your response."
The original game, Torchlight, sold over one million copies.
Runic Games is owned by MMO company Perfect World Entertainment.
