Microsoft will officially close its Xbox.com PC Marketplace on August 22, 2013. According to this FAQ on Xbox.com, those who have purchased Games for Windows Live titles and DLC will still be able to play them through the service's client, but won't have access to any kind of marketplace to purchase additional content. Some are concerned that Games for Windows Live titles will be inadvertently pulled from other services such as Steam, but that is really up to the publishers, according to Microsoft.
For example, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet developer Michel Gagne said via Twitter today that the game would continue to be available via Steam.
MS Points will also be going bye-bye - just like they are on Xbox Live:
"As part of the recent Xbox 360 system update, Microsoft Points will be retired and the Xbox.com PC Marketplace will be closed as of August 22, 2013," the FAQ reads. "We encourage you to spend your Microsoft Points balance prior to this change. Although you will not be able to purchase new games, you can continue to enjoy previously purchased content by downloading it through the Games for Windows Live client software as usual."
We will keep an eye out for any GFWL titles that experience hiccups after Microsoft makes its changes on August 22 and keep you posted.
Thanks to MaskedPixelante for the head's up on this story.

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Let's renegotiate them.

So much for their BS attempts to still qualify themselves on the PC market.
Thought they were building GFWL into Win8 in order to try and push the platform harder, whatever happened to that?.. oh yeah, GFWL sucked hard.
My question is though, will there still be access to the GFWL purchases not currently downloaded, will downloaded items still install manually, and are they converting MS points already in your account or deleting them?
If they're deleting the points they're going to get sued big time, they can't just take peoples money and run like that...
Re: Games for Windows Live Marketplace Closing August 22
Other articles have already covered this. Only the marketplace itself is disappearing. Anything purchased is still available on the account and is not going anywhere in the foreseeable future. Points are getting converted to currency and getting rolled over into the new store which will cover both Xbox and Windows 8 purchases.

Works for me then.

Games for Windows had a marketplace?
Exactly.

I just tweeted Double Fine to see if Iron Brigade would be taken down as well, as the shutdown policy indicates that Microsoft will be removing any MSGS published game that uses GfWL. If I hear back, I'll let you all know.
