Report: Apple in Buyout Talks With Kinect Creator

November 18, 2013 - GamePolitics Staff

According to two separate reports, Apple is in discussions with the makers of the Kinect motion sensing technology to buy the company out. According to reports on AllThingsD and Calcalist, Apple is in serious talks to buy out Israel-based PrimeSense for $345 million.

The reports go on to say that acquiring this company is part of Apple's strategy toward creating wearable devices and its own line of televisions, which would incorporate some sort of motion-sensing technology.

Both PrimeSense and Apple declined to comment on the matter.

Microsoft's latest generation of the Kinect technology will be rolled out this Friday with the release of the Xbox One, which will retail for around $500.

So I'm guessing Microsoft won't be able to release another Kinect then.

Re: Report: Apple in Buyout Talks With Kinect Creator

From the AllThingsD article linked above: "PrimeSense was the original supplier for Microsoft’s breakthrough Kinect gaming device, which incorporated cameras and depth sensors so that players could control games with their gestures. But Microsoft used homegrown technology for the new Kinect that is part of Xbox One."

"The reports go on to say that acquiring this company is part of Apple's strategy toward creating wearable devices..."

I could have sworn people said it was Samsung who always was copying Apple, not the other way around...
