Turbine Renews Lord of the Rings License

January 14, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

Turbine Entertainment announced via a forum post that it has renewed the license for Lord of the Rings, allowing its long-running MMO Lord of the Rings Online to continue operations.

Community Manager Rick Heaton confirmed that his company had renewed the license for the game set in the universe created in Tolkien's popular books in a forum post.

"I just wanted to drop in and address the concerns surrounding the license, again. We have said as far back as July of 2013, we plan to support LotRO for many years to come. I really want to be as clear as possible on this subject to avoid any further confusion or misunderstanding. The license was renewed."

The license was set to expire this year. Heaton did not indicate how long this particular license would last, but the company has said that it plans to support the free-to-play MMO for at least a few more years.
