Report: World Cyber Games Won't Hold Tournaments in 2014

February 5, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

According to an OnGamers report, World Cyber Games is finished holding eSports tournaments this year and may cease operations beyond being just a "brand." The World Cyber Games is one of the world's most popular and recognized e-sports tournament organizations operating competitions in Asia, North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Oceania.

The report is based on an email obtained by the organization purported to be written by WCG CEO Brad Lee that was recently sent out to the organization's long-standing partners. In the email Lee tells partners that, "This year, World Cyber Games Inc. will not organize tournaments and events, including the World Cyber Games finals world."

He goes on to say that "each partner can use brand WCG in your country from this point" and that the decision was made by the WCG committee, "after considering the current global trend as well as the business environment."

He ends his email by thanking his partners for doing great work over the last 14 years.

We will continue to follow this story as it develops, but we're pretty sure that WCG will eventually make an announcement of some sort informing players if this story turns out to be true.
