Sony Pictures Buys Film Rights to 'Console Wars'

February 24, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

Sony Pictures has purchased the film rights to "Console Wars," a book chronicling the war between Nintendo and Sega in the 1990's. Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, Pineapple Express) has apparently signed on to write and direct a film based on the book. He will be joined by his long-time writing partner Evan Goldberg as well, according to Book Trade.

The film is based on the book by author Blake Harris, who gathered stories from hundreds of people who witnessed or were part of Nintendo and Sega's many "behind-the-scenes" battles.

The book is set for a June 14 release. You can pre-order it on Amazon.com.

Sony Pictures plans to turn the book into a "behind the scenes business thriller," but a documentary also being headed up by Rogen is being developed as well.

Rogen and Goldberg are certainly interested in this bit of video game industry history; they penned the foreword in the book.

No bet. Especially after reading the book's description on Amazon.
