Company Claims Nintendo Infringing on Patent With Wii U

April 18, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

Nintendo is involved in another lawsuit with a familiar adversary, this time over a Wii U patent violation claim. Nintendo Co. Ltd, Nintendo of America and other companies are being accused of patent infringement by a company called Secure Axcess, LLC.

That company claims that its patent issued on February 18, 2003 for "a computer providing multiple display capability where one display presents the current document and another display may show a true display of a previously opened document," was infringed upon by Nintendo.

The company has previously taken legal action against Nintendo over the same patent related to its portable game platforms: DS, DS Lite, DSi, 3DS, and 3DS XL.

Secure Axcess is seeking "compensatory damages, costs, among other reliefs," from the companies for selling Wii U "without license or authorization," according to Nintendo World Report.

Wait.... the description of that patent sounds an awfully lot like my dual monitor display for my laptop and other computers. Do they infringe? I think I have been using more than one monitor since before 2003.

Despite their profile by Bloomberg BusinessWeek, this company is a documented patent troll that has no other notable income than patent litigation - all of which have been filed in the usual heaven patent trolls seek to lititgate in: East Texas (which is probably this LLC is incorporated there).
