Microsoft Making Big Changes to Xbox Live Gold in June on Xbox 360 and Xbox One

May 13, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

Microsoft sent out an announcement to customers today to let them know that some changes would be coming to Xbox Live Gold membership. Starting in June Microsoft will bring its free games give-away program, Games with Gold to the Xbox One, in addition to Xbox 360.

They also announced that Deals with Gold for Xbox One, which gives members exclusive discounts on games and content in the Xbox Store, will also be coming to Xbox One.

Finally, Microsoft confirmed what we already reported on this morning - that popular entertainment apps, like Netflix, YouTube, Machinima, and more on Xbox 360 and Xbox One will no longer require an Xbox Live Gold membership.

This means that everyone can enjoy the amazing gaming, TV and entertainment experiences that Xbox has to offer, right out of the box.

For more information on these changes, you can check out Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold FAQ.

Slight (but important) update: Apparently now if you download a Games With Gold game and let your subscription expire, the free games disappear along with it. No doubt there will be a lot of complaints about this new model - which is similar to what happens to PS Plus subscribers on PS3 and PS4.

The Games with Gold thing, does this effect all existing games, or new games bought recently?
