More Layoffs at 'Eve-Online' Maker CCP Games

June 5, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

EVE Online maker CCP Games has laid off 49 employees from its Icelandic headquarters. The latest round of layoffs follow 56 employees being let go from its Atlanta, Georgia offices a few months ago. CCP confirmed the layoffs in a statement to Polygon, saying that those who were affected this time around were from the company's "publishing organization."

"As part of our strategy to focus on the EVE Universe, today CCP conducted a restructuring that resulted in the layoff of 49 people in our publishing organization," the statement reads.

"Though it is hard to say goodbye to our friends and family, this action concludes the process we started several months ago. CCP has provided severance packages and job placement assistance for those affected."

"Development teams and plans for EVE Online, EVE: Valkyrie, DUST 514, and 'Project Legion' are not impacted by the restructuring."

The 56 employees laid off in April were working on the now canceled World of Darkness MMO.

Re: More Layoffs at 'Eve-Online' Maker CCP Games

This studio only makes games for the hardcore minority and ignores the largest gaming consumer, the casual gamer. This studio cannot even make an easy 1st person shooter. Dust 514 is one of the most complex games I've ever played and for this to be a first person shooter is a joke.
