The V&A’s first ever Game Designer in Residence, Sophia George, today launches the annual game design competition for students, Dare to be Digital. George started her career on Dare to be Digital, winning in 2011 with her family-friendly puzzle game Tick Tock Toys. The Dare to be Digital competition is an annual affair hosted and run by Abertay University.
Every year hundreds of students apply to Dare to be Digital, with the goal of building a working game prototype in eight weeks. An expert panel picks 15 teams of five students to take part in the contest, with the finalists being publicly exhibited in Dundee in August. Three winning teams will then be picked to compete for the BAFTA Ones to Watch Award. George's team won the BAFTA Ones to Watch Award in 2012.
The three main awards are sponsored by PlayStation First, the academic development program run by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE).
