Kotaku Report Details Ubisoft Montreal's 'Game Developer Limbo'

RI Secretary of State Holds Lobbying Violation Hearing for Former 38 Studios Board Member

Target 12 News out of Providence, Rhode Island is reporting that the Rhode Island Secretary of State's office held its first hearing focusing on the alleged lobbying activities of former 38 Studios board member Thomas Zaccagnino on Thursday. Zaccagnino was not present at the hearing, according to the report.

Xbox Live Gold Free to Xbox 360 Owners This Weekend

This weekend those who do not subscribe to Xbox Live Gold can get access it for free. Beginning today and ending on Oct. 12, Xbox Live Gold will be free for everyone, allowing players access to all of the services features.

Besides allowing you to play the multiplayer portion of all those Xbox 360 games you own, you can also download and play a variety of free-to-play games including World of Tanks, AirMech Arena, Happy Wars, and Warface.

PSA: 'Minecraft PS Vita Edition' Coming to PS Store Next Week

After a lengthy wait, PS Vita owners will finally be able to play Mojang's popular world crafting game Minecraft next week. Sony announced via the PlayStation Blog that the PS Vita Edition of Minecraft will be coming to the Playstation store next week.

Minecraft PS Vita Edition will be available via the PlayStation Store on Oct. 14 for only $19.99, while the retail version will be released on Nov. 11.

Double Fine's 'Hack 'n' Slash' Takes Top Honors at IndieCade 2014 Awards

Last night organizers of IndieCade 2014 handed out awards honoring such indie studios as Double Fine, Little Wins, and Down to the Wire. There were more than 1,000 submissions from developers, and over 30 nominations for the awards this year. IndieCade is an annual event held in Los Angeles that celebrates independent developers and the wonderful games that they make.

Hack 'n' Slash from Double Fine took the Grand Jury Award, while Loveshack's Framed won the Visual Design Award, and N++ from Metanet Software was given the Special Recognition Awards.

Linsday Lohan's Lawyers Modify Focus of 'GTA V' Lawsuit Against Take-Two

Lindsay Lohan's lawsuit against Rockstar/Take-Two Interactive for her alleged depiction in Grand Theft Auto V has shifted its focus to be compatible with New York State law (the jurisdiction where the lawsuit was filed) and the amended complaint filed by Lohan's lawyers has gone from 10 to 67 pages long, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

EMA Hands Out Digi Awards to 'Breaking Bad,' Amazon, and More

Journalism School Uses Grant to Teach Journalist 'Game Design'

The American University School of Communication is using a $250,000 grant from the Knight Foundation for a new program to train journalists in game design, Gamasutra reports.The grant money will be used to fund a "Journalism Leadership Transformation" pilot program with six fellowship positions: three for working journalists, and three for journalism students.

EGS Sees 40K Attendees During 2014 Event

Organizers of the Electronic Game Show (EGS) announced today that the 13th annual EGS gaming event saw record-breaking attendance of 40,000, "further establishing Mexico as a major video game market in Latin America."

"With the 40,000 attendance mark being surpassed for the first time in EGS history, this is a clear sign of the momentum of the Mexican market," said Alejandro Bertoldi, EGS Manager.

Ian Livingstone Hopes to Launch School That Utilizes Video Game-Based Curriculum in 2016

Eidos President for Life Ian Livingstone has applied to launch a free school in England that will deliver lessons to students using video games. Livingstone told the BBC that he wanted to start a school that uses games-based learning and get away from what he called the  "relentless testing" method used and most schools in the country.

"I'm passionate about children who have been born into the internet," he told the BBC. "I think they learn in a different way."
