Organizers of GaymerX say that this year's event in San Francisco, GaymerX2 will very like be the last event they organize. Speaking to Polygon, GaymerConnect's Matt Conn told Polygon that the cost of securing the venue and other things related to the event were just too high and the successfully funded Kickstarter campaign did not generate enough money.

World of Tanks and World of Planes maker Wargaming today announced its plans to join with its long-term partner the Russian Kubinka Tank Museum to reconstruct and put back in running condition the only remaining Panzer VIII Maus tank.

With less than six days to go before its Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign ends, the Unwinnable Weekly digital magazine project has raised $15,275 of its $35,000 goal. Unwinnable Weekly is a weekly digital magazine featuring writing from gaming site Unwinnable's list of excellent contributors.

GaymerX has issued a "call for submissions" for those interested in speaking at the second annual GaymerX convention in San Francisco this summer. Speaker submissions will be accepted via the event's website through the end of April. The GaymerX2 event will be held once again at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown San Francisco from July 11 - 13, 2014.

In case you didn't know, GaymerX2 is an event that provides a friendly atmosphere to the LGBT-gaming and geek community. Friends of the community who don't happen to be LGBT are also welcomed.

The latest edition of Clueless Gamer sees talk show host Conan O'Brien taking over Dallas' AT&T Stadium's massive DiamondVision screen to play games.

Last year Drexel University professor Frank Lee took over the side of the 29-story Cira Centre in Philadelphia to play a gigantic interactive game of Pong. In turn he set the Guinness World Record for the "Largest Architectural Video Game Display." Last night the good professor doubled the record with a massive game of Tetris.

Last night's episode of The Simpsons featured a Minecraft inspired intro. The show opened with a trademark couch gag, complete with a blocky environment, The Simpsons appearing as Minecraft-style characters, and Moe the bartender popping up as a Creeper.

It looks like the documentary seeking to find the lost dump containing thousands of copies of the worst Atari game ever made can dig in New Mexico. It has long been rumored that millions of copies of the Atari 2600 game, E.T.: Extra-Terrestrial were buried in a landfill in New Mexico.

For those who don't know, E.T. is considered the worst game ever made, and has been accused of helping to hasten the video game industry crash of 1983. Recently several film companies ran into a government road block when they located the landfill in question.

Military-focused video game charity Operation Supply Drop announced that it will partner with game-focused video streaming service Twitch to raise funds for the third-annual 8-Bit Salute. The 8-Bit Salute event is an annual 24-hour gaming marathon taking place this year from May 17-18. Donations raised during this year's charity event will fund video game care packages to U.S. military personal deployed in combat zones such as Afghanistan and those recovering in military hospitals.

Kumail Nanjiani (HBO's "Silicon Valley") stars in the latest episode of Street Fighter Red Tape from "The Pete Holmes Show." In it, he plays Dhalsim, the least marketable of all the Street Fighter characters. Holmes brings up some good points in the skit about the Dhalsim character, like those strange skulls he wears around his neck. Men of peace don't usually wear child-sized skulls...

Disney has acquired YouTube video network Maker Studios. The company has paid $500 million to acquire the outfit, which is best known for carrying the videos made by YouTube star 'PewDiePie.' Last year PewDiePie beat such stars as Miley Cyrus and One Direction to become YouTube’s most watched star in H2 2013.

Here's something you don't see happen every day: a major video game, a prominent YouTube personality and a mega pop star all coming together to create something special. The ultra popular sand box world building game Minecraft got some mad props recently in the music video for Lady Gaga's hit song, "G.U.Y."

UK-based games charity GamesAid has announced the line-up of comedians that will be taking part in its annual comedy-charity event Stand Up for GamesAid. The annual comedy show takes place this year on April 14 at the Comedy Store in London and will be hosted by Imran Yusuf, and Eurogamer's Ellie Gibson.

They will be joined by comedians Paul Tonkinson, Ola, Holly Walsh, Paul Thorne, Jarred Christmas, Susan Calman, and Kev Orkian.

Money raised from the event through ticket sales will go directly into the coffers of GamesAid.

Organizers of last year's first gay gaming and geek culture convention launched a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign in mid-February for GaymerX2. Now with less than 12 hours to go before the crowd-funding campaigns, organizers are trying to hit a final stretch goal of $30,000. Hitting that milestone will allow them to bring on The Super Soul Bros! to play live music during the event. Previous stretch goals included adding an additional $1,500 cash prize to the cosplay contest being held at the event, color programs, and pronoun sticker add-ons for badges.

Mental health awareness organization 'Take This' announced that it will be continuing its association with PAX at PAX East 2014, with a presentation on the best way to discuss important mental health issues with co-workers, a dedicated "AFK Room" for attendees who need a quiet space to take a break from the show and a program specifically designed to help PAX East's volunteer "Enforcers" with recognizing and assisting attendees in need.

On the latest episode of Conan O'Brien's Clueless Gamer, Conan plays WWE 2K14 for the Xbox 360. Unlike other games he has played on the show, Conan really seems to enjoy this one and (we assume with the help of his more knowledgeable co-host) creates a hilarious parody of himself. The site is a new initiative created by Visit Sweden, the Swedish Institute, and Business Sweden in conjunction with that country’s video games industry.

This year's theme, "Video Games in the Crosshairs," is of particular interest to those who love games because it asked contestants to make a video dealing with such issues as gaming, violence, virtual reality, and censorship.

Freddie Wong’s company RocketJump has successfully completed a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo with more than $900,907 raised during a month-long campaign to finish "Video game High School," a popular sci-fi series about competitive gamers who attend a high school all about video games. Wong was seeking $750,000, but the project proved to be so popular that it set a record for a crowd funded web series on Indiegogo.

Yesterday Mid Boss Games launched the crowd-funding campaign for GaymerX2, seeking $10,000 to put down a deposit on the venue for this year's LGBTQ-friendly gaming event. After 24 hours online the event has surpassed its funding goal, bringing in $11,169 (as of this writing). With the deposit secured Mid Boss Games has an entire month to raise extra funds for various stretch goals, which can be found here.

Streaming video service Twitch says that the text-game being played out in its chat system, "Twitch Plays Pokémon," has broken the chat system a bit. In a blog post today, it says that the millions of unique viewers and over 100,000 peak concurrent viewers related to the "Pokémon Red playing in real-time" social experiment has proven to be too much for its chat system.

Through a combination of attendee entry fees, donations it received on-site, Peggle 2 entries, PayPal donations and excess sponsorship, Gamers Outreach announced that it managed to raise a total of $20,682.37 for game-related charities at its annual event - Gamers for Giving 2014 - that took place this weekend. According to statistics the group shared, it raised $12,970.00 from online registration and donations; $5,510.00 from raffle ticket sales, Peggle, door sales, and on-site donations; and $2,202.37 from stream donations, mail-in donations, and excess sponsorships.

The National Coalition Against Censorship let us know that the Youth Free Expression Film Contest 2013 Semifinalists are now online, featuring the work of teen filmmakers that explore video games, gamer culture, and censorship. Judges will select the top three winners on February 25.

YouTube viewers can also participate by "liking" their favorite video, with the "most liked" video being honored with a People's Choice Award.

Organizers of the 11th annual Games For Change Festival announced today an impressive line-up of keynote speakers scheduled to appear during the event scheduled to take place in New York City April 22 - 24 at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Last month organizers announced that this year's event will run in tandem with the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival. Headlining the Games For Change Festival will be academics, authors, researchers, and award-winning game designers.

Dong Nguyen, the 29-year-old Veitnamese indie creator of the popular mobile game Flappy Bird, said that he removed the game from both Google Play for Android and iTunes for iOS devices because he was deeply concerned that the game was too addictive. There has been plenty of speculation that Nguyen pulled the game because of legal threats from Nintendo (for using art similar to art found in the Super Mario Bros. series of games) or because he couldn't handle the pressure, but it turns out that - he claims at least - he had a lot of concerns about people playing his game too much.

The third annual Hyrule Hustlers: Zelda Marathon fundraiser for Child’s Play Charity kicks off on Friday, February 14 in Ottawa, Ontario. The multi-day charity event will be broadcast live on Twitch.tv over several days as organizers play through as many Legend of Zelda games as they can and solicit donations from the community at large and viewers via www.hyrulehustlers.com. As the donations increase, the length of the marathon session increases with it.
