Game streaming service Hitbox took a few hard shots at competitor Twitch this week after the service implemented new copyright rules and changed the way streamers can archive content.

In a blog post deriding Twitch and promoting its own service (of course), Hitbox said that forcing a 30 second or more delay on streams and applying its new automated copyright enforcement system on VODs is a "slap in the face of everyone who tries to share their passion for gaming with the world."

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Sony Computer Entertainment in California's Northern District Court accusing the company of falsely advertising that the PS4 launch title Killzone: Shadow Fall featured 1080p graphics. The lawsuit filed by plaintiff Douglas Ladore is seeking certification as a class and designating Ladore as the lead plaintiff in the case.

Noah Dyer, who calls himself an "anti-privacy" activist, is seeking $300,000 in a Kickstarter campaign to fund a year-long live stream of his life. And when we say his life, we mean _everything_ you could possibly imagine. He calls the project "A Year Without Privacy."

They specifically point the finger at the NAACP, who has decided that it would be bad to put restrictions on ISPs because it will stymie their efforts to build out broadband networks in urban areas.

A Sony rep. tells Game Informer that the company does not think EA Access offers a real value to PlayStation 4 owners. Electronic Arts announced the program yesterday, and revealed that it would be exclusive to Xbox One. Sony seems to be fine with that.

"We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect," they said.

Electronic Arts has announced a new $5-a-month subscription plan with Xbox One that will give those willing to pay a monthly subscription fee access to select Xbox One games. The subscription, which is rolling out in limited beta to select people today, will be available as a monthly or annual subscription.

Stockholm, Sweden's week-long Stockholm Pride Festival kicks off today, and to celebrate Swedish retailer Webhallen is auctioning off a custom rainbow flag colored PS4 which it is calling the "Sony GayStation." Proceeds raised from this auction will go to the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights.

Developer Facepunch Studios has agitated the Rust community simply by announcing that it is working on several other game ideas. It all started when it announced a prototype for a new game called "Riftlight," an arcade space shooter with action-RPG elements. Fans of Rust, the popular action survival game that was released on Steam Early Access, are angry because Rust is still in development and unfinished. Fans see it as Facepunch taking focus away from that game to work on this new game.

In a recent filing with the FCC by The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (which represents Time Warner Cable, Comcast, and other broadband providers throughout the U.S.) the trade groups claims that ISPs are worried that Netflix will start charging them for access. Ironically Comcast and Verizon are currently in deals with Netflix to provider faster access to their customers.

A cautionary tale about renting your home out to strangers for some quick, short-term cash on CNN has ties to video games. According to this CNN report, Cory Tschogl rented out her 600-square-foot condo in Palm Springs, California to two brothers, which CNN describes as video game developers - more on that later. The two brothers, Maksym and Denys Pashanin from Austin, Texas, rented the Palm Springs condo for 44 days, paying for 30 days of their stay in advance.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron's chief adviser on intellectual property and Member of Parliament Mike Weatherley is pushing for penalties related to theft in virtual worlds and online. According to several reports, Weatherley, an avid World of Warcraft player, has asked members of Parliament to consider new laws that would make it so that “people who steal online items in video games with a real-world monetary value receive the same sentences as criminals who steal real-world items of the same monetary value."

Yesterday, Kickstarter suspended West Games' crowd-funding campaign for Areal, a first-person sci-fi themed shooter billed as a spiritual successor to GSC Gameworld's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. The crowd-funding campaign has been mired in controversy since it launched, with former employees of the original and now dissolved S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Nintendo's performance at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June boosted purchasing plans for Wii U by 50 percent, according to a new report. A survey carried out by IHS on behalf of the Gamer Network polled 1,000 "core" gamers about their purchasing intentions for various consoles and games before and after the annual trade show in Los Angeles.

Despite some controversy associated with Areal, a spiritual successor of sorts to the STALKER series, the Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign from West Games is a success, raising $64,291 with three days to go. West Games was asking for $50,000 initially and there was some doubt that it would raise it.

In a new filing with the FCC, Verizon claims that if broadband providers are classified as common carrier under Title II of the Communications Act, they will be forced to charge web services and web sites. It is quite a claim, and one that has been debunked by experts, but that isn't stopping Verizon from pushing the issue.

EA announced that it is ending support for The Sims 2. The 2004 sequel shipped nearly 20 million copies across all platforms, and released eight expansion packs. While it is shutting down support for the game, EA is offering those with a registered Origin account a free copy of the most-up-to-date version, of the game - The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection.

That will appear in Origin in the next few days before support ends on The Sims 2 July 22. The Ultimate Collection also includes all the expansions and stuff packs, and allows players to transfer their save files.

US Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) has always been opposed to the FCC regulating anything, but she has been particularly outspoken about the FCC's Open Internet Order since it was introduced in 2010. To that point, Rep. Blackburn recently said that she wants to make sure the FCC never interferes with "states' rights" to protect private Internet service providers from having to compete against municipal broadband networks.

In an article on Gamasutra, game developer and president of Game Mechanics John Ardussi claims that 150,000 views of a YouTube video featuring a game only generates about 10 game sales.

Ardussi did not detail how he came to this conclusion, and not all games have that kind of sales performance as it relates to YouTube exposure. In other words, mileage may vary.

But Ardussi still has doubts that YouTube exposure generally stimulates sales in any significant way.

Saints Row series developer Volition has asked the city of Champaign, Illinois, for around $200,000 in tax breaks and incentives, or - it says - it may have to move its headquarters out of the bustling downtown area of the city. Volition moved to its current location in 2004, and is has plans to expand, hiring around 100 new members.

Popular YouTube gaming crew The Yogscast, which has over 7 million subscribers, announced plans to take "a small share" of the sales revenue for sandbox space game Space Engineers during July.

In return the Yogscast team will run a series of videos and Yogscast-branded items for the game. Yogscast presenters are calling this new initiative "YogDiscovery," and the team says this is the first of a series of paid partnerships with developers. They also stress that the developers of this game will have no editorial input or control.

If you put all the sales for your most recent consoles together it looks pretty impressive. That's what Sony did revealed via a new promotional video that it has sold 100 million PS3, PS4, and PS Vita systems to-date, collectively. Of course the lion's share of that number belongs to the PS3, which has sold 80 million units since its release many moons ago to November 2013.

In the past Sony said that - since its release in November of last year more than 7 million PS4 systems have been sold as of April 6.

A new report from Libertarian publication Reason, "Millennials: The Politically Unclaimed Generation" (PDF) finds that a majority of young people it surveyed believe that government is "inefficient, abuses its power, and supports cronyism."

HBO sent out another reminder to the media that its documentary film about game addiction in South Korea will premiere on Monday, July 28 at 9:00 PM. The film, "Love Child," tells the story of two South Korean parents who were so addicted to the Korean MMO Prius that they neglected their three month old child to the point that he died. They were later charged by police.

We've seen "rock simulators" and goat simulators, so I suppose it isn't that much of a stretch for a games journalist to want to make a "games journalist simulator." That's exactly what games journalist Jason Evangelho tells web site Siliconera; he has teamed up with Game Informer writer Daniel Tack to create "Game Journalism Simulator."

GameStop CEO Paul Raines says that yesterday's news that the company wants to get more involved in the development process in order to bring exclusive content to the retailer may have been slightly misunderstood. The Raines interview with Time that comes on the heels of comments from a financial analyst with R.W. Baird who reported that GameStop management was discussing the possibility of ramping up the company's participation in game development during a recent investor meeting.

A select number of current Xbox 360 users have received an offer from Microsoft via Xbox Live offering them a $75 credit if they purchase an Xbox One from any retailer. How Microsoft is choosing which customers receive this special offer is unknown as of this writing. The promo appears on users' Xbox 360 dashboards and says that it's only for Microsoft's "very best customers."

The offer is for selected Xbox 360 owners in the United States, Canada, and the UK.
