An amusing edition of comedy site The Onion's "American Voices" gets some opinions from faux men and women on the street. In this edition they tackle a recent study by British researchers that concluded that playing video games even at an early age does not impact a child's behavior. The lede reads as follows:

While the news media in Australia is using headlines about how a man accused of murder was playing a violent video game prior to allegedly committing the crime, the unnamed game is never mentioned in court as some sort of catalyst or influence to the events that unfolded outside of an Ambarvale home in south-west Sydney on June 20, 2012. Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped Sky News from using the headline, "Stabbing 'followed violent video game.'"

I'm not sure if this Telegraph article on game addiction is supposed to be some kind of Onion-esque comedy bit, but it sure reads like one. In it the author offers five tips for beating your game addiction.

Putting aside that fact that game addiction (and Internet addiction for that matter) is not a real recognized addiction like gambling is by mental health professionals around the world, the article offers such wonderful tips as:

1) Time Yourself.

We are not sure if the man in this video shot outside a Montreal Best Buy is pulling an elaborate prank, is genuinely angry about something or is simply out of his flipping mind, but it provides the official "WTF" moment of the day. If you watch the video to your left you'll see a man appear in the frame suddenly go berserk with what we assume is a freshly purchased PlayStation 4. He angrily tears at the console's box, raises it over his head and slams it on to the pavement.

I am pretty sure his warranty doesn't cover THAT.

In a recent interview on TechRadar, Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey says that console systems - both current and next-generation are too limited to work with the company's Oculus Rift virtual reality headset technology. Luckey goes on to say that the biggest problem with consoles is that their level of hardware power remains unchanged for many years, whereas PC systems are constantly upgraded and evolving.

A new report from Bloomberg reveals that one of the candidates to replace former CEO Steve Ballmer wouldn't think twice about making major changes to the company if necessary - including shutting down major divisions to refocus the company like Bing and Xbox.

Nomura analyst Rick Sherlund says that Microsoft's losses on its Xbox business total $2 billion per year, but are masked or hidden by substantial cash generated from royalties on patents from Android-based devices.

Oakland, California news station KTVU has a bizarre story about a 16-year-old who set another passenger on fire while he slept on a public bus. Investigators are still trying to figure out why the unnamed teen intentionally set an 18-year-old on fire on AC Transit bus Monday.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says that new consoles coming to market near the end of this month could signal greater consumer interest in games overall, which in turn will help Nintendo.

Video games accessory maker PDP has created a Kinect TV mount that comes with a "privacy cover" to block the device's RGB and IR cameras. The device, which is listed on Amazon (found by NeoGAF users) costs $20 and promises that it will "fit almost any TV and requires no tools for installation."

House Intelligence chairman Rep. Id Software co-founder and Oculus Rift guy John Carmack says that he is not convinced that Valve Software can pull off the lofty goals of SteamOS and Steam Machines - while at the same time admitting that he has been very wrong in the past about what Valve is capable of.

A special needs student who brought a picture of a bomb to school that he drew has been suspended. The student, 13-year-old Rhett Parham, enjoys drawing and watching videos of his favorite game Bomberman 64 on YouTube.

He drew a picture of an a old fashioned bomb and took it to his school - Hillcrest Middle School in Simpsonville, SC. At one point on Monday during one of his classes, he told his classmates that he "had a bomb" and showed them his drawing. This apparently led to the school suspending him.

His mother, Amy Parham, was shocked and outraged.

PETA is using the excitement of the recent release of Pokémon X & Y for the 3DS to promote a vegan lifestyle with a new Flash-based game that prominently features a bastardization of Pikachu and Ronald McDonald called Pokémon: Red, White, and Blue (An Unofficial Parody).

The game has Pikachu attempting to uncover conspiracies about the fast food industry in the United States including how food for various chain restaurants in produced.

A Wisconsin teen has managed to get himself officially banned from playing video games. According to multiple reports, Racine County Court Commissioner Alice Rudebusch ordered 17-year-old Jeffery A. Ehlers of Mount Pleasant to pay a $250 signature bond and ordered him to not play video games or have "violent contact" with his family. Ehlers made his first court appearance on Monday answering charges of disorderly conduct. He is being charged as an adult.

Deputy United Kingdom prime minister Nick Clegg apparently believes that games like Grand Theft Auto V can have a "corrosive effect" on player behavior. Speaking on his LBC Radio show today he cited unknown research to malign video games and the people that play them.

Tulsa, Oklahoma Talk Radio Station KFAQ AM 1170 gives former Florida Attorney and familiar anti-game crusader Jack Thompson a chance to talk about his favorite subject: Grand Theft Auto.
