After Japanese developer Comcept successfully funded Mighty No. 9 on Kickstarter to the tune of around $3.8 million from over 70,000 backers, one would think the studio would be focusing on the development of said side-scrolling platformer inspired by Mega Man.

But apparently the studio has launched a second crowd-funding campaign through PayPal on its website to funded additional content. Comcept said that it decided to launch a second crowd-funding round based on feedback from its legion of fans.

A group of developers who claim to have worked on titles in the popular STALKER series, have formed a new studio called West-Games with plans to develop a spiritual sequel. But shortly after launching a Kickstarter for the game "Areal," the freshly formed Las Vegas studio has run into a few problems - namely being called out by Vostok Games.

Chris Roberts and Cloud Imperium have managed to raise $47 million in crowdfunding for the ongoing development of the space simulation game Star Citizen. The money raised to date comes from the initial Kickstarter campaign (which raised over $2.1 million), crowd-funding via the game's offical site, and through sales of specific ships and items for the game.

Torment: Tides of Numenera, inXile's spiritual sequel to the classic AD&D game from Black Isle Studios and Interplay, has been delayed until the fourth quarter of 2015. The game, which raised nearly $4.2 million via a highly successful Kickstarter campaign, was scheduled for release in the first half of 2015.

Imagine if Miami Vice's Crockett and Tubbs spent all their time keeping the public safe from those oh-so-dangerous video games.

That's the image I have in my head after reading the Kickstarter pitch for VID Agents, a satirical, 16-episode web series that will "point the finger back at all the people who get cranky about video game violence!"

Three friends want to bring a game-themed bar to Tempe, Arizona, and they have turned to Kickstarter to try and fund it. The Tempe "barcade" named Endgame is the brainchild of former ASU student Ryan Scott, and friends Nikki DelRosso and Mike Goosens. According to the Kickstarter page, the "barcade" would provide patrons with liquor and an "extensive collection of retro and modern games for you to enjoy and play."

As of this writing, the Kickstarter campaign has received around ten percent of its $30,000  funding goal with 13 more days to go.

Last week Harmonix raised $844,127 on Kickstarter to create a successor to its popular 2002 PS2 music rhythm game, Amplitude. There was much celebration and appreciation from the company. But hot on the heels of that positive news, Harmonix has laid off 37 of its staff and shuffled several executives into new positions.

At around 7 p.m. EST on May 22, Harmonix's reboot of the classic action rhythm game Amplitude managed to hit its funding goal of $750,000. This is quite an amazing achievement for Harmonix if you consider that the Kickstarter campaign at the beginning of the week was nowhere near close to its funding goal. But somehow in the eleventh hour - and with a lot of support from high profile developers, a Twitch marathon, and general word-of-mouth amongst fans - the game managed to get fully funded.

Harmonix's Kickstarter for the current generation reboot of its cult classic PS2 rhythm-action music game, Amplitude, is within striking distance of getting fully funded. Earlier in the week it looked like the project would not survive the Kickstarter funding process, but in the last several days the project has seen a surge of public support.

Developer inXile has announced in its latest Kickstarter update for Wasteland 2 that the game will officially be released in August. Wasteland 2 was successfully funded on Apr 17, 2012 via a rather impressive Kickstarter campaign that raised over $2.9 million by its close and was backed by 61,290 people. The post apocalyptic action RPG - which was the inspiration of the Fallout series of games from Interplay (now owned by Bethesda) - was also released on Steam Early Access in December of last year.

In last week's poll we asked our readers, "Should Kickstarter adopt an equity-based investment model?." A majority of voters - 58 percent - said that it should be an available option to project creators. Around 31 percent said that offering equity based funding to Kickstarter was a bad idea all around. Finally, 10 percent said that it was a good idea. Kickstarter said last week that it had no plans to use that type of model for its crowd-funding services.

If someone comes up with a cool project and tries to fund it on Kickstarter, you can chuck a bit of money at them to help them make their dream a reality.  Chuck enough money at 'em and you're usually entitled to various rewards ranging from a "thank you!" to a copy of whatever the heck the project is to a dinner-date with the project creators.

Rock Band series creator Harmonix has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the reboot of its 2003 rhythm-action game, Amplitude. The goal is to update the cult classic music game for the PS2 to newer Sony systems such as the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. The new Amplitude game will feature new high definition visuals, new music, and other surprises to be revealed.

The last time we checked games journalist Andrew Groen's Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for his book, A History of the Great Empires of Eve Online, it had almost tripled its initial goal of $12,500. As of this writing the project sits at $40,899, with 19 more days to go. With the project fully funded and earning way above its initial goal, Groen (pictured, left) continues to kick around ideas to make the project more interesting.

Kickstarter co-founder and current CEO Yancey Strickler said that Kickstarter has no plans to become a publicly traded company or to offer equity-based offerings in its crowd funding ecosystem. Speaking with TechCrunch’s John Biggs at the TechCrunch Disrupt New York event, Strickler shot down the idea of adding equity-based crowdfunding features into its popular crowd-funding platform.

Games journalist Andrew Groen launched a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for his book project, "A History of the Great Empires of Eve Online." Within hours of its launch, the crowd-funding campaign for the book, which will explain in plain English the in-game history of CCP's popular space MMO universe, has already garnered well over half of its goal.

Virtuix has completed a $3 million round of seed investment that it says it will use to complete its Omni VR treadmill. You may remember the virtual reality treadmill from last year when its Kickstarter crowd funding campaign sought to raise $150,000 but ended up raising a whopping $1,109,351. The technology works with VR headsets to let players move around inside virtual environments. At present Virtuix has more than 3,000 preorders for the $500 Omni treadmills.

It's hard to be against a game that lets you craft a shank out of a melted toothbrush, a Bic razor and a sheet from a bed. PCGamesN highlights the Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight campaign for the Prison-themed RPG Prisonscape.

As of this writing there are around 80 minutes left until the crowd-funding campaign for Unwinnable Weekly ends. The campaign to fund a digital weekly edition of Unwinnable hit its initial goal of $35,000 yesterday and hit another milestone of $38,545 in the last couple of hours.

XCOM creator Julian Gollop's 'Chaos Reborn' has managed to surpass its Kickstarter crowd-funding goal. The Kickstarter closed at $210,854, well above the $180,000 goal it was originally seeking. The project is based on Gollop's classic 1985 ZX Spectrum game, Chaos: The Battle of Wizards. The turn-based fantasy strategy game puts players in the shoes of a lone wizard with a small but powerful collection of spells.

Starbound developer Chucklefish announced that it will publish the Metroidvania-style role-playing game Heart Forth, Alicia. Chucklefish will enable developer Alonso Martin to bring the game to platforms beyond Windows PC. The game has been in development for seven years and is currently seeking $60,000 in a Kickstarter campaign. As of this writing the game has already collected $59,368 of its $60,000 goal. By the time you read this, the game will likely hit its initial funding goal.

Cloud Imperium founder and Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts announced that crowdfunding for the studio's ultra-popular space game Star Citizen has reached $42 million. The latest milestone is a combination of money from the 2012 Kickstarter campaign and subsequent donations via PayPal.

With a little over 60 hours to go, X-Com creator Julian Gollop's latest project is going to the wire - his crowd-funding campaign for Chaos Reborn is very close to its funding goal. As of this writing, the campaign has managed to raise $160,268 of its $180,000 goal from a little over 3,900 backers. The project is based on Gollop's classic 1985 ZX Spectrum game, Chaos: The Battle of Wizards.

With less than six days to go before its Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign ends, the Unwinnable Weekly digital magazine project has raised $15,275 of its $35,000 goal. Unwinnable Weekly is a weekly digital magazine featuring writing from gaming site Unwinnable's list of excellent contributors.

Indie developer Digital Eel announced that those who backed its space strategy game, Infinite Space III: Sea of Stars, will have access to an early preview build today. Digital Eel's Rich Carlson tells us that the Infinite Space III: Sea of Stars Early Access preview begins today.

Lyon, France-based indie developer Little Worlds Studio said that it is "playing its last card" and "places its fate in the hands of the public" with the launch of an initiative to save the company through what it is calling a "Kickfailer." Unlike a "Kickstarter," this initiative seeks support through its already established free-to-play mobile game Mana Crusher.

Indie developer Last Limb will be exhibiting its crowd-funded puzzle platformer Organic Panic at PAX East this weekend in Boston. Organic Panic was recently given the Greenlight by the Steam community and Last Limb signed a publishing deal with indie publishing label Midnight City in the summer of 2013.

Gaming site Unwinnable launched a Kickstarter campaign a few weeks ago to fund a weekly digital magazine featuring writing from its list of excellent contributors. As of this writing that campaign has raised almost half of the $35,000 needed to fund the project, with less than two weeks to go. As of this writing Unwinnable Weekly has raised right around $12,196.
