Online retailer Green Man Gaming announced today that it has opened a digital publishing division called Green Man Loaded. This new division will be led by former Codemasters and Sega executive Gary Rowe, who joins the company as EVP of publishing.

"Green Man Loaded was born out of several years of Paul Sulyok [Green Man Gaming founder and CEO] being bombarded by developers asking for advice in selling their games," said Rowe.

Steam now supports additional local currencies, according to an announcement made today by Valve Software - as reported by CVG. Local currency in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand are now supported. In late August Steam added support for the Japanese Yen.

Puppy Games has launched a Patreon to fund the ongoing development of its free MMO Battledroid. While the small indie studio continues to work on it, it has come to the conclusion that the MMO needs at least another year of development time and it does not have enough money to fund that effort. So they decided to turn to Patreon instead of other crowdfunding methods like Indiegogo or Kickstarter to raise some funds.

GOG.com is removing over 30 games from its catalog in a little over 40 days and it wants those who don't own them to score them while they can by offering an 80 percent off limited time discount. After the sale is up the games will be removed from the catalog, according to GOG.com.

Expanding on its commitment of providing DRM-free PC games for Mac, Linux and Windows to the masses, GOG.com has announced that it has begun offering DRM-free movies today. At launch the site is offering 22 DRM-free movies - all currently under $10.

Yesterday we reported that GameFly sold the digital distribution platform (Direct2Drive, which was later renamed GameFly Digital) it bought from IGN in 2011 to a company called atGames. Today Dave Hodess - the CEO of GameFly - shed a little light on why the company decided to divest itself of that business.

Video games rental service GameFly has divested itself of the PC digital games platform that it bought from IGN in 2011 to AtGames. After purchasing Direct2Drive (an early competitor to Valve's Steam) from IGN in 2011, the company rebranded and relaunched the service as "GameFly Digital." The company has put up a small notice announcing the sale on its PC games portal at digital.gamefly.com.

EA Sports announced on its web site that it will discontinue its Season Ticket digital subscription promotion in March of 2015. Launched in 2011, the Season Ticket offered early access to select EA Sports titles, Ultimate Team Packs and other DLC, and discounts on digital purchases for an annual fee of around $20.

Delaware has become the first state in the US to enact a law that ensures families’ rights to access the digital assets of loved ones during incapacitation or after death. Last week, Delaware Gov. Jack Markell signed House Bill (HB) 345, "Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets and Digital Accounts Act," which gives "heirs and executors" legal authority to take control of a digital account or device, according to Ars Technica.

According to research firm DFC Intelligence, 92 percent of all PC game sales across the world were digital in 2013. Speaking to PCR , the firm also said that it expects this number to increase in the years to come. DFC said earlier this year that the PC games market had surpassed the console gaming sector in terms of total revenues.

Electronic Arts is making a solemn promise to the gaming community today: a game that becomes part of EA Access will remain available forever - or as long as the service is available... At least that is what EA chief operating officer Peter Moore is telling CVG, among other things. Moore also said that, because a game's inclusion in The Vault - the service's catalog - is permanent, EA has to be very picky about what it will include.

EA Access, EA's all-you-can-consume games subscription plan for Xbox One, does not require an Xbox Live Gold account. EA confirmed the news but emphasized the fact that Xbox Live Gold will still be required for individual game features such as multiplayer. Of course that won't stop Xbox Live Silver users from obtaining the games and worrying about non-functional features later.

EA Access is not the first service to be available outside of Xbox Live Gold; Microsoft Netflix and other entertainment apps became available outside gold membership in June.

Electronic Arts has announced a new $5-a-month subscription plan with Xbox One that will give those willing to pay a monthly subscription fee access to select Xbox One games. The subscription, which is rolling out in limited beta to select people today, will be available as a monthly or annual subscription.

An investigation by Reclaim Your Game reveals that the new version of The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection contains SecuROM, the notorious DRM. But the worst part is the fact that, while EA was giving away the game for free (because it is ending support for it) to anyone with an Origin account, it didn't bother telling anyone that the game contained this DRM scheme.

Valve has updated the official FAQ for Early Access releases on Steam, now noting that games purchased by consumers within this program "may never be finished." The new warning from Valve in the Steam Early Access, is an answer to the question, "When will these games release?" The answer, according to Valve's update:

A new report from the Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA), "2014 D2 Report: Discs & Digital – The Business of Home Entertainment Retailing," suggests that physical discs for games, movies, and other entertainment continue to represent the majority of revenues for video and video games.

Trade group the Entertainment Merchants Association has added three new companies as members today. Those companies include film company Lionsgate, Barnes & Noble's Nook Media, and hoopla digital.

According to this TorrentFreak story, the PC version of Wolfenstein: The New Order is so large that some people pirating the game on torrents have opted instead to buy it on Steam. While the information is anecdotal, it could help explain - in part - how the newest action game from Bethesda managed to unseat DayZ from the Steam top-selling games charts for the week of May 18-24.

In an article over at Eurogamer this morning, Marcin Iwinski, co-founder of CD Projekt, said that GOG is considering an Early Access program similar to Steam, but it would be quite different in a lot of ways. One of those ways is that not all games would be able to get on the service.

Prior to Sony reporting its consolidated results for the fiscal year ending March 31, CEO Kazuo Hirai and other executives will not be taking bonuses this year, according to the Wall Street Journal.

They may also take a 50 percent pay cut this year, according to the report. Sony's exit from the PC business as well as consumer disinterest in physical media such as DVDs and Blu-ray discs are the main reason for these reductions in pay and bonuses.

Electronic Arts and ISP Comcast are believed to be negotiating a game streaming deal, according to five independent sources speaking to Reuters. According to sources speaking to Reuters, Comcast will give some customers the ability to buy and stream EA titles through Comcast's new X1 operating system. X1 is only available in certain areas covered by Comcast at the moment.

GOG.com has added language support for a number of titles in its catalog, along with support for Mac OS X on select titles. For starters all of the classic Infinity Engine role-playing games from Hasbro are available for Mac OS X.

Now Mac owners can play such games as Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga, Baldur's Gate 2 Complete, Icewind Dale Complete, Icewind Dale 2 Complete, and Planescape: Torment. Mac users can also run and the cool D&D classic, Temple of Elemental Evil.

BioWare says that it can't offer downloadable character DLC for Dragon Age: Inquisitor because of the controversy surrounding on-disc downloadable content. Some see the excuse as a big FU to fans who have complained in the past that they shouldn't have to pay extra for content already on a game's disc.

Sony Online Entertainment announced that Player Studio support will begin for Landmark "on or before May 1." As part of the rollout, Player Studio creators in select regions outside of the United States will be able to submit in-game items across all Player Studio-supported games.

A representative for 7 Entertainment has issued a public apology following claims that the site was reselling game keys acquired from various Humble Bundle promotional sales, according to this CVG report. On Friday it was revealed that several online retailers owned by distributor 7 Entertainment, had been reselling game licenses that had been obtained for as little as $1 through various Humble Bundle promotions.

EA's Origin digital distribution platform will soon ditch physical media and will only sell digital media after April 4. Prior to this change consumers could buy both physical disc-based and digital versions of games through Origin. After April 4, they will only be able to buy games that can be downloaded.

"What does this mean for you? If you're among 99 per cent of our users, absolutely nothing," Origin wrote on its website. "Your shopping experience hasn't changed one single bit."

Electronic Arts has launched a new promotion similar to Microsoft's Games With Gold for Xbox Live. The new promotion is called "On The House," and gives away a free game from time to time. The only catch is that you have to be a registered user of the company's Origin digital distribution platform.

"We're gamers, too," EA said. "We appreciate you making Origin your gaming home... and besides, who doesn't like free stuff?"

The first game available to consumers for free is the horror action survival game Dead Space.
