Get-Well Gamers Foundation President Ryan Sharpe joined millions of other gamers in the community praising Sony for its stance on always on and used games (revealed during its E3 Expo press conference tonight). In case you didn't know, Get-Well Gamers is a charity that gives games and game systems to children's hospitals around the world.

While there was a heavy focus on games, very little gameplay footage was shown, something you'll see me mention over and over if you read the more detailed section of this recap.  But first, here's the too long, didn't read version:

The 2012 and 2013 Worst Company in America just wrapped up its E3 press conference and I must say, it was phenomenally well-paced.

Until it started talking about EA Sports games and the show's momentum crashed headlong into a brick wall and the cringe-inducing, goofy stuff started rearing its unwelcome head.  But we'll get to that.  Here's the too long, didn't read version:

More details have been revealed on the new Xbox 360 consoles that have been released to retail outlets today. The newly redesigned console comes in three SKUs: a 4GB model, a 4GB model with Kinect included, and a 250GB model.

The 4GB vanilla option will cost $200, a 4GB with Kinect included will cost $300 and the 350 GB Xbox 360 will cost $300. We assume that these newly designed models will eventually replace older models on the market now.

Microsoft held its Electronic Entertainment Exp Xbox One press conference today, finally showing off some of the games that will ultimately make or break its system as it goes head-to-head with Sony's PlayStation 4 later this year. The most notable news coming out of the event is when the console will be released and how much it will cost consumers when it hits retail.

DVD and video game rental company Redbox has launched a website to encourage consumers to discuss Sony and Microsoft's rental policies for games on their respective next-generation consoles. Microsoft and Sony are set to host their E3 press conferences later today. Microsoft has already indicated that it will let publishers decide if used games can be used on the console, but Microsoft has not indicated how the new system will handle rentals.

Entertainment Software Association (ESA) President Michael Gallagher said last night that retail research firm NPD is doing a grave disservice to the video games industry by not adequately covering digital sales in its monthly reporting.

"The digital side of the industry is not being adequately reported, understood or covered. I think we've seen the consequences of that over the last two years," said Gallagher.

Colin Sebastian, senior equity research analyst covering Internet and interactive media for Robert W Baird & Company, offers some interesting opinions on E3 next week including yesterday's revelations from Microsoft on used games. In a note to investors the firm says that Microsoft's clarification on used games is a mixed bag for GameStop, raising concerns about publisher discretion and how it will impact GameStop's used games business.

BMO Financial Group issued a report offering a "preview" of the Electronic Entertainment Expo next week in Los Angeles - or rather, what the firm thinks will transpire there and what trends will be important.

Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz has issued a note today to investors about what he would like to see at - and what he expects to come out of - the Electronic Entertainment Expo next week. Creutz says that he believes Nintendo may announce a "badly needed" price cut at E3, and says that gamers should not expect PS4, Xbox One pricing info or details on used game schemes from the big players next week.

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) today revealed the 16 pieces of art that will be part of the 2013 Into the Pixel (ITP) collection to be shown off at the annual E3 Expo in the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 11-13, 2013, at the Concourse Foyer.

Last week we asked you "Which company’s E3 press event are you most looking forward to?" and a large majority seemed apathetic about the whole thing. 389 votes were cast, with the majority (35 percent, or 137 votes) indicating that they were most interested in Sony's press conference. Twenty-five percent (or 96 votes) indicated that Nintendo's press conference at E3 next week was important, while 20 percent (79) said that you didn't care about any press conferences related to E3.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) today revealed the five finalists from its inaugural E3 College Game Competition. The five finalists are Alamo Colleges, Northwest Vista College; Brigham Young University; Savannah College of Art and Design; University of Chicago; University of Wisconsin-Stout. Finalists were chosen by a panel of industry experts, who selected the best and brightest from 400 US colleges and universities with computer and video game development programs.

I don't know about you but I'm taking a vacation day on Monday, June 10 so I can stay home and watch all the conferences.  Yes, I'm that big a video game dork.

Nintendo today revealed the list of Best Buy stores that will offer hands-on demos of various games the company plans to show during E3 week in Los Angeles next month. The demos will be available at select Best Buy stores (supposedly 110 of them) in North America on June 12 and June 15. Obviously Nintendo did not reveal what titles would be playable at these stores because it has not announced them yet.

Nintendo has a novel way of getting gamers (who do not already own a Wii U) excited about the games it will be showcasing at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles next month. At participating Best Buy stores consumers will be able to get hands-on time with pretty much the same game demos as the press gets access to from the E3 show floor. The announcement was made by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime today during a Nintendo Direct presentation.

On Thursday June 13th (as part of this year’s E3 expo) video gaming site Venus Patrol will team up with MOCAtv (the video channel of Los Angeles’s Museum of Contemporary Art) to present an alternative press conference called HORIZON. Organizers say that this press event will show off a "lineup of beautiful games as an alternative to what we’ve come to expect from standard E3 fare."

Speaking to GamesIndustry International in a feature article this morning, Entertainment Software Association (ESA) senior vice president of communications and industry affairs Rich Taylor says that the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo next month is still relevant to the industry.

2K Games will not be on the show floor at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo this summer, according to an announcement on its website. The company did not give any particular reason for not attending this year's show, only promising to release information on its slate of upcoming games later this spring.
