Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House said during a presentation at the Develop conference today that the company changed its 2013 E3 script at the last minute because of fan reaction to various missteps by Microsoft on a number of issues - particularly its stance on used games. House emphasized that it never changed its policies in response to Microsoft but it did tweak its E3 press conference presentation to highlight the PS4's strengths.

Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall managed to score six honors for this year's Game Critics Awards. The sci-fi themed shooter won Best of Show, Best Original Game, Best Console Game, Best PC Game, Best Action Game, and Best Online Multiplayer. The Game Critics Awards select the best game in various categories shown off during the Electronic Entertainment Expo that took place in Los Angeles in June. The awards are selected by 30 media outlets. Because Titanfall won so many awards this year, no other game managed to get more than one award.

Last week during E3 we asked you if Microsoft's policies on used games and DRM in general on the Xbox One have doomed the new console among consumers. You responded in droves, making this poll the most voted on poll in our history of doing polls. Thanks to everyone who voted!

Xbox One players who are banned from Xbox One services will still have access to their games according to Microsoft's director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb. Speaking to Reddit Games, Hyrb said that consumers will "will always have access to the games that you purchased."

When asked about if the same rules applied to those who are banned from griefing, Hyrb said: "Well, then you don't have to add them to multiplayer."

With E3 over, equity research firm BMO Capital Markets offers its perspective on all the big players and the industry as a whole going forward. According to BMO analyst Edward Williams the video games industry has earned an overall rating of "outperform." In a note to investors Williams says that the interactive entertainment industry is on the cusp of a "period of sustained growth."

Williams comes to this conclusion based on the press events this week at E3 which fully revealed two new consoles and a healthy line-up of games for them.

Indie developer Vlambeer was robbed at E3, according to Rami Ismail, co-founder of the company. The Ridiculous Fishing developer claims that a backpack was stolen on early Thursday morning from the Figueroa Hotel pool bar, a popular hangout for developers. That backpack contained laptop, two iPads, a PlayStation Vita, a Vita test kit, a Kindle Fire, various connectors and cables, and code for Vlambeer's upcoming game Luftrauser.

Another year, another E3 Expo has come and gone. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), owner of the annual video game industry trade event, said that 48,200 video game industry professionals, investor analysts, journalists, and retailers from 102 countries attended this week's event in Los Angeles.

The ESA also said that an estimated 28,000 hotel room nights were purchased by attendees of the show and generated nearly $40 million in revenue for the city. Approximately 230 exhibitors showcased video game hardware and software, and accessories this year.

Robert W. Baird & Co. Incorporated analyst Colin Sebastian offered his E3 Expo wrap-up report to investors, saying the Sony's PlayStation 4 was the clear winner at the trade show which ends in a few hours.

Sebastian said that after meeting with multiple publishers and evaluating all of this year's E3 press conferences, his firm remains cautiously optimistic on the sector. He said that platform holders still need to offer a compelling reason to upgrade, and a clear value proposition for mainstream audiences.

Electronic Arts' President of EA Labels Frank Gibeau says that its online pass system was dumb, that it is dead and that it will never be coming back. EA announced back in May that it would wind down its online pass system. The system required consumers who purchased an EA game to punch a code in to get access to multiplayer and other game extras. If someone purchased that same game used they would then have to pay a small fee - usually around $10.

If you decide to play certain free-to-play MMO-style games on the PlayStation 4 you may not need to have a PlayStation Plus subscription. According to Sony Online Entertainment, publishers of those games can decide whether or not they will make Plus a requirement. SOE is developing two of its current properties for play on PS4 - PlanetSide 2 and DC Universe Online - and both of them do not need a Plus membership in order to play.

Earlier today we told you about the Entertainment Software Association's efforts to block the view of Ouya's presence outside the LA Convention Center with trailers. Ouya has set up a small exhibit outside of the E3 Expo showing off its Android-based console and related game properties.

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida believes that the PlayStation 4 will have a lifespan of over ten years, just like previous PlayStation family home consoles. Speaking with CVG, Yoshida said with PS4 there is room for growth should games start to exceed the 8GB of RAM, and that Sony plans to support the console for at least 10.

EA Labels president Frank Gibeau has said that EA is not tone deaf to the vast amount of criticism it receives and has responded to that criticism even when he thinks it’s not fully justified. EA's most damning criticism this year was winning the dubious distinction of being named the 2013 Worst Company in America by the Consumerist survey in April. Those results were based on voting by consumers.

Legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto says that used games are less of a concern than the elephant that has always been in the room: piracy. Speaking to CVG Nintendo's most prominent and prolific game creators said that piracy is a bigger threat to his company's business than the used games market.

The upcoming free-to-play game Command & Conquer will make a key change to its gameplay that might just make it accessible to areas outside the United States and Europe: it will change the "bad guys" in the game from being primarily Middle Eastern' militants to a more varied group made up of all kinds of ethnic groups - including Caucasians.

Microsoft's Don Mattrick seems to live in an alternate universe where throwing gasoline on a fire puts it out. It doesn't in this one. Speaking to GameTrailers, Mattrick said that consumers who are concerned about connectivity issues - for example soldiers that might deployed overseas or someone deployed on a submarine - have an option for this generation: buy an Xbox 360.

Sony's message on used games and DRM has been pretty consistent company wide during E3, which is something of a miracle, because when you get too many executives out in the wilds talking to the press, usually one or two of them inserts a foot into an open mouth. The latest to say something that gamers will appreciate is SCE Europe boss Jim Ryan.

IGN is reporting that E3 Expo organizer the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) called the LAPD on Ouya's outdoor exhibit. Ouya has been camped out at a parking lot near the LA Convention showcasing its console and the games that are available for it.

As I have indicated multiple times when discussing Microsoft's new system to enable or disable used games on the Xbox One, most publishers don't seem to have a clue about this new tool Microsoft has put in place for its console. At first we simply assumed they were playing dumb to avoid revealing too much prior to E3, but as more developers and publishers talk openly about the topic, it seems that they don't know an awful lot about it.

Earlier today a story based on a GamerTrailers TV interview with Sony's Jack Tretton circulated saying that Sony would not do anything to stop third-party publishers from implementing their own DRM system for used games.

The Entertainment Software Association released its report, "2013 Essential Facts About the Computer and Video Game Industry" on the official opening day of the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. The ESA represents the video games industry, operates the E3 Expo trade show, and owns the ESRB, in case you didn't know.

BMO Capital Markets analyst Edward S. Williams says that Microsoft's pricing for the Xbox One was higher than expected while Sony's PS4 was right around the price point it was excepted to be at. The firm noted in a note to investors that the industry gets a rating of Outperform based on the four press conferences that happened on Monday and the one pseudo press conference streamed by Nintendo today.

Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA) President Hal Halpin offers his insights on video game ownership - a topic that has caused cheers for Sony and jeers for Microsoft at E3 in Los Angeles this week.

With the kind of fanfare you'd expect from a Nintendo Direct video presentation streamed over the Internet, Nintendo got right to the business of showing off new games for the 3DS and Wii U that would appear in some fashion at its E3 booth this week in Los Angeles. All of the games shown during today's event were first-party.

Prior to Sony announcing its policy on used games during its E3 Expo 2013 press event, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that his company had not made a decision on how it will handle used game trades in the next-generation. Guillemot said that he had not decided yet if it would use the system Microsoft put in place for Xbox One.

"What I like is because they are not taking a fee, it will give us the option to look at what service we have to give if we have to give service," Guillemot said recently. "So it's a good thing Microsoft is not taking a fee."

While some may believe that Sony somehow decided at the eleventh hour on its pricing and policy on used games and connectivity, Sony VP of Worldwide Studios Scott Rohde told Polygon in an interview earlier Monday night that the company hadn't changed any opinions or strategies in response to Microsoft's Xbox One plans.
