Summer Games Done Quick raises $1.2 million for charity

This year's Summer Games Done Quick, a speedrunning event under the auspices of Games Done Quick for charity, ended this past weekend and managed to raise $1.2 million for the Doctors Without Borders charity.

This year's total is an impressive jump from last years' event total, which clocked in at around $700,000. During the Awesome Games Done Quick event in January, the organization managed to raise $1.5 million. And the latest numbers will probably change because organizers say that donations are "still coming in."

GamesAid seeks nominations for worthy charities to receive funds this year

UK-based video game charity GamesAid is seeking nominations for charities it should give money to this year.  Between August 17th - 28th, GamesAid members (you have to be a member to put forth a charity, but you can sign up for free here) can put forward the names of organizations that deserve to receive a portion of the funds GamesAid collects through fundraising efforts.

Bungie raises over $1 million for Nepal earthquake relief

The last time we checked in on Bungie's efforts to generate money for Nepal earthquake relief for the Red Cross, the campaign powered by Destiny t-shirts and in-game apparel had raked in over $800,000. Today Bungie revealed that it has raised over $1 million.

"All told, your collective power has raised over $1,000,000," said community manager David "DeeJ" Dague.

Bungie raises $800K for Nepal earthquake relief

On May 1, Bungie began selling a Destiny-themed t-shirt specifically to raise funds for Nepal earthquake victims.  To date, Bungie has already raised $750,000 - with Activision kicking in an additional $50,000.  That's up from $400,000 a week ago. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from each purchase will go to "recognized charities providing direct relief efforts in Nepal."

EVE Online maker CCP Games is accepting "PLEX for GOOD" donations from players to benefit victims of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25, leaving over 6,000 people dead, over 14,000 people injured, and hundreds of thousands homeless. Bungie has created a Destiny-themed t-shirt specifically to raise funds for Nepal earthquake victims.  The t-shirt, available exclusively on the Bungie Store, comes in three types (and varying sizes): men's, women's, and children's.  The shirts are available for purchase between now and May 24, with orders shipping in "early June." Also included in the purchase price are some digital goodies - a Destiny in-game shader and emblem.

'Far Cry 4' dev team will match donations to the Canadian Red Cross Nepal Region Earthquake Fund

Ubisoft and the Far Cry 4 development team said today that they will match the first $100,000 in donations given to the Canadian Red Cross for the Nepal Region Earthquake Fund, Polygon reports. The company wrote on the Canadian Red Cross web site that it decided to help out victims of the recent earthquake there because it spent a lot of time in the country taking in its scenery and culture for research related to the development of Far Cry 4.

GamesIndustry International reports that during UK-based children's charity SpecialEffect's February GameBlast charity gaming weekend, it managed to rake in over £120,000 in donations, surpassing last year's total by an impressive £50,000.
