Organizers of the Electronic Game Show (EGS) announced today that the 13th annual EGS gaming event saw record-breaking attendance of 40,000, "further establishing Mexico as a major video game market in Latin America."

"With the 40,000 attendance mark being surpassed for the first time in EGS history, this is a clear sign of the momentum of the Mexican market," said Alejandro Bertoldi, EGS Manager.

Nintendo made a few Super Smash Bros.-related announcements this morning including the fact that the Nintendo 3DS version of the game has sold more than 2.8 million units worldwide - mostly attributed to sales of the game in North America, Europe, and Australia. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS launched on Sept. 13 in Japan, Oct. 3 in the North America and Europe, and Oct. 4 in Australia.

A year ago Undead Labs managed to sell through one million copies of its zombie apocalypse simulator game, State of Decay. Today the company announced that it has sold two million copies of the game on PC through Steam and on Xbox 360 through Xbox Live Marketplace. To celebrate this latest milestone, the company will host a month of festivities - to be announced at its web site at a later date.

inXile Entertainment revealed this morning that its crowd-funded spiritual sequel to the classic Interplay role-playing game Wasteland has generated $1.5 million in sales in the four days since it launched. The crowd funded post apocalyptic RPG sequel launched on Steam last Friday for PC, Mac, and Linux. So far, the game is getting fairly good reviews from both critics and fans.

"We are ecstatic that the style of game we love so much has been embraced so well," said inXile founder Brain Fargo.

While announcing its new Steam Discovery update, Valve also revealed that the service now has more than 100 million active accounts, up by 25 million from the 75 million figure the company revealed in January.

Valve also announced that more than 3,700 games are available to consumers on Steam, and that more than 1,300 games have been added in 2014. That's a dramatic increase compared to the 304 titles that were added to Steam in the first nine months of 2013.

Apple had a strong opening weekend in iPhone 6 sales, according to figures the company released yesterday. According to Apple, it sold (combined) over 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus phones in the three days since its September 19 launch. That's twice as many phones as when it launched the iPhone 5 in 2012.

Educational game company Tangible Play has generated around $2 million in pre-orders for Osmo, its educational game platform for iPad, according to Gamasutra. The accessory kit, which retails for around $49, is shipping to to preorder customers - including more than 2,000 schools. Tangible Play is a Silicon Valley startup founded by former Google, Disney and Ubisoft employees.

Seeing that government regulation was in the wings if it didn't do something, the Interactive Digital Software Association (now known as the Entertainment Software Association, or ESA) decided that the industry needed a self-governing ratings system.

One million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold in the United Kingdom since launch, according to an announcement from Sony, making its current-generation console the "one of the fasted selling systems in UK history."

At launch in the UK, Sony sold 250,000 units in the first few days of availability, surpassing the Wii U's lifetime total in the country in short order.

2K Games' cards-meets-wresting mobile game, WWE SuperCard has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times. That number represents downloads during the game's first week of release on both the iOS and Android versions of the game.

GungHo Online's popular mobile title Puzzles & Dragons, has been downloaded over 30 million times to-date in Japan. The news was revealed by industry veteran Dr. Serkan Toto, who cites a press release circulated by GungHo earlier this week.

That same press release says that Puzzle & Dragons has seen 4 million downloads in the U.S. and Canada, 2 million downloads in South Korea and 1 million downloads across Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The ESL announced that the ESL One Cologne 2014 event saw peak online concurrent viewership of more than 409,368 during the Counter Strike: Global Offensive match in-game or online. In addition Twitch saw 343,638 peak concurrent viewers, beating a record set in March by 153 percent.

"It's amazing to see the growth of Counter Strike: Global Offensive in the eSports community. Just five months after ESL One Katowice, we see ESL One Cologne 2014 break our previous record by an amazing 161 per cent," said the ESL's Ulrich Schulze.

Yacht Club Games, the makers of the ultra popular Shovel Knight, have revealed some interesting details about crowdfunding the game, the rough patch of living they had to endure while making the game, and the most recent sales figures. First the sales numbers: Shovel Knight has sold 180,000 copies in its first month, with around 15,000 going to Kickstarter backers and the press. The company expected to sell a total of 150,000 units. The Wii U version of the game is not available outside the U.S. yet either.

Free-to-play MMO shooter Robocraft has managed to surpass one million registered players since its release on Steam Early Access. While an early build of the game was available prior to being released on Steam's Early Access, developer Freejam says that putting it on Steam has helped drive the game's user base significantly.

Sales of the PC and Mac versions of Minecraft have surpassed 16 million copies, according to developer Mojang's official site for the game. The impressive number is up from up from the 15 million copies the company revealed in April and the 14 million copies it announced in February.

Minecraft Pocket Edition sales surpassed 21 million units in April, while 12 million copies of Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition had been sold as of February, according to Mojang's internal sales figures.

Steam has broken the 8 million concurrent users milestone for the first time in its history - thanks mostly to its popular summer sale. On Sunday evening over 8 million gamers were using the service at the same time as the Steam Summer Sale began to wind down.

The last milestone for concurrent users on Steam - according to its stats page was around 7.5 million, which occurred over Christmas 2013. The new record high of 8,020,834 was recorded at 16:03 PDT on Sunday June 29.

The Steam Summer Sale ends at 10am PDT today.

Chris Roberts and Cloud Imperium have managed to raise $47 million in crowdfunding for the ongoing development of the space simulation game Star Citizen. The money raised to date comes from the initial Kickstarter campaign (which raised over $2.1 million), crowd-funding via the game's offical site, and through sales of specific ships and items for the game.

The popular puzzle game Tetris is 30 years old today. The game became popular when it appeared on a new hand-held system from Nintendo - the GameBoy - and the rest is history.

The popular and often copied Temple Run games on the Apple App Store have been downloaded one billion times, according to GII. Developed by Imangi Studios, Temple Run and Temple Run 2 are world-running platformer games that are extremely popular and have been cloned by other developers trying to cash in on the games' popularity.

Bandai Namco revealed today that its hardcore action RPG sequel Dark Souls 2 has shipped 1.2 million copies to North America and Europe in its three weeks at retail. Developed by From Software, Dark Souls 2 launched in early March. The shipping numbers revealed today are as of March 31, 2014 and do not include the PC release, which launched last month, nor do they include sales in Japan because From Software self-published the game there.

While announcing the two year anniversary of the original DayZ mod for Bohemia Interactive's Arma 2, DayZ creator Dean "Rocket" Hall revealed that the stand-alone game based on that mod has hit a brand new sales milestone. According to Hall, DayZ has sold over two million copies since its release on Steam Early Access.

The original PC version of Minecraft has gone past the 15 million sales milestone, according to a new announcement by its creator. The news comes from Minecraft creator and Mojang co-founder Markus Persson, who posted the news on Twitter.

Nintendo's very first hand-held gaming system, the Game Boy, turns 25 years old today. Nintendo's original Game Boy hand-held was launched on April 21, 1989 and has sold over 118 million units to-date. Nintendo has sold over 118.69 million units - if you include Game Boy Pocket and Game Boy Color sales numbers - to date, along with 501.11 million pieces of game software. The first game to be bundled with the Game Boy was Tetris, a juggernaut in its own right.

Nintendo released the Game Boy Advance in 2001, which went on to sell over 81.5 million units worldwide.

According to a report on Gematsu, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has registered more than 2 million player accounts. The new number is being attributed to the MMORPG being released on the PS4 this week. Square announced in 2013 that PS3 players would gain full access to the PS4 version at no additional cost.

The revamped title launched last August on PC and PS3, following a beta that garnered more than 1 million sign-ups.

Cloud Imperium founder and Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts announced that crowdfunding for the studio's ultra-popular space game Star Citizen has reached $42 million. The latest milestone is a combination of money from the 2012 Kickstarter campaign and subsequent donations via PayPal.

Sony and developer Sucker Punch are happy to announce that their first-party PlayStation 4 title InFamous: Second Son has sold through over 1 million digital and physical copies worldwide in its first nine days after launch. The super-hero/villain themed open-world action game is one of the first significant releases this year for the PlayStation 4, topping the digital charts on PlayStation Network in both North America and Europe, according to Sony.

The mobile version of Mojang's popular open-world building game has hit a new milestone this week. According to a tweet from Mojang's Jens Bergensten, Minecraft: Pocket Edition has sold over 21 million copies to-date. We assume that this number includes paid iOS and Android versions of the game. Minecraft: Pocket Edition was released in August 2011, and arrived on iOS devices that same November.

Fast Company magazine has named Telltale Games the most innovative company in the industry for its Top 10 Most Innovative Companies In Gaming for 2014. The company took the top honor and beat out such heavyweights as Sony, King and Tencent.

Fast Company gave Telltale Games the top spot for bringing "a television production schedule to the video game industry." Fast Company is referring to Telltale's episodic games including The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us.

In a recent interview with GamesBeat, The Tetris Company's Henk Rogers reveals that the mobile version of the classic puzzle game has been downloaded more than 425 million times. That figure does not include free-to-play versions of the game, which Rogers apparently is not a big fan of.
