Temple Run Downloaded 50 Million Times To-Date

Temple Run 2 has been downloaded over 50 million times on iOS, Android and Kindle devices, according to developer Imangi Studios. The latest game from Imangi Studios reached that milestone in just 13 days, breaking the previously set record for the fastest growing mobile game (Angry Birds held the previous record with 50 million downloads in 35 days in April of 2012).

Indie Developer Almost Human Sells 600K Units of Legend of Grimrock

As part of an update to reveal what they have been up to since the release of the Legend of Grimrock (including a release of an editor that allowed players to make mods for the game - 450 are available as part of Steam Workshop as of this writing), developer Almost Human revealed that its game has sold over 600,000 copies since its release. Of course much of the success of the old-school first-person RPG had to do with being included in the pay-what-you-want DRM-free Humble Indie Bundle 7.

ArenaNet: Three Million Units of Guild Wars 2 Sold Since Launch

Mojang Sells 453K Minecraft Units During Christmas

Mojang's popular world building game franchise Minecraft had a wonderful Christmas / holiday season, according to tweets from company co-founder and Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson. According to Notch, the company sold 453,000 copies of the game across all platforms during the Christmas season.

Sony Stops Shipping PS2 Console in Japan

According to a Famitsue report (by way of The Verge) Sony has halted shipments of its ultra popular PlayStation 2 game console in Japan. The last generation console has sold over 150 million units worldwide since its launch in Japan on March 4th, 2000 and is the most popular home console of all time.

Ouya Developer Units Shipping

The Android-based console that took Kickstarter by storm and captured the attention of the online gaming community has started to show up on developers' doorsteps. The $99 Ouya raised $8.6 million on Kickstarter. Today the creators of the system started shipping 1,200 consoles to developers (or those who pledged money at the developer level reward tier). Developers who want to play games on the system can get started with the system's SDK.

Developers who didn't get the special Ouya console can also access the Ouya SDK (ODK) online under a free Apache license.

3DS Beats PS3 in Lifetime Sales in Japan

According to new data from MediaCreate on sales in Japan for the week of Dec. 3 - 9, the Nintendo 3DS has sold more units to-date than the PlayStation 3. The 3-D enabled hand-held system managed to do this in the region in less than two years to boot.

Lifetime sales of the 3DS came in at 8,799,378, beating out the PS3 which came in at lifetime sales of 8,716,260 units in Japan. The PS3 has been on the market in Japan for six years. In terms of sales in Japan for the week, the Wii U came in on top at 308,142, followed by the 3DS at 211,499, and the PS3 at 36,994.

Major League Gaming Sees Massive Online Viewership Jump for 2012 MLG Pro Circuit Championships

Major League Gaming announced a whopping 334 percent year-over-year growth in live streaming video viewers of its gaming competition. According to the pro gaming event company, more than 11.7 million unique viewers tuned in to watch the four 2012 MLG Pro Circuit Championships online, compared to the 2011 Pro Circuit season which drew 3.5 million unique online viewers. Minecraft for PC Sells 8 Million Copies To-Date

Another day, another milestone met for Mojang's ultra popular sandbox building game, Minecraft. It has managed to surpass the 8 million sales mark on the PC platform, according to a tweet from Mojang co-founder and Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson.

"The PC version of Minecraft just passed 8 million sales," said series Persson via Twitter.

"My face is making grinning sounds, so I assume it's grinning," he added.

Microsoft: Halo Series has Generated $3 Billion in Revenue

New sales figures from Microsoft reveal that its ultra popular Halo franchise has generated nearly $3 billion in revenue since launch, with more than 46 million Halo games sold. Halo: Reach was responsible for around $200 million of that revenue in just 24 hours across Europe and the US, with Halo 3 managing to bring $170 million in the US on day one. Halo 2 was no slouch either; it raked in $125 million.

Take-Two: Quarterly Sales Doubled, Still Posted a Loss

Take-Two Interactive today released its earnings report for the three months ended September 30, posting booming revenues for the quarter, but warning that it would fall drastically short of its full year projections. It posted net revenues of $273.1 million, up from $107 million from the same period a year ago. During that same period a year ago Civilization V: Game of the Year Edition helped drive the company's revenues.

Project Eternity Hits $3.5 Million Funding Milestone

Obsidian Entertainment's Project Eternity Kickstarter has hit a major milestone in its last few hours - it has surpassed Double Fine's Adventure game Kickstarter to become the highest funded game project in history. The crowd funding campaign for Obsidian's old-school RPG now sits at just a little over $3.5 million with just nine more hours to go. They hit this number with the help of 68,207 backers. According to a tweet from Mojang business developer Daniel Kaplan, the PC version of the company's ultra popular world-building, Zombie fighting game Minecraft has sold over 7 million copies since its launch.

RuneScape Over 200 Million Registered Users Strong

UK-based Jagex Software announced today that its free-to-play massively multiplayer online adventure game RuneScape has hit a major milestone: 200 million registered player accounts worldwide. Jagex claims that over the last 10 years, RuneScape has garnered the support of over 200 million players from more than 150 countries around the world since its launch as a 3D web based MMO in 2001. They say that, if RuneScape were a country, it would be the 5th largest population in the world.
