Reggie Fils-Aime Insists Wii U Has a 'Strong Third-Party Pipeline'

June 11, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime attempted to address concerns that there has been a real lack of third-party titles for the Wii U announced so far this week, but didn't actually mention any third-party titles. During Nintendo's E3 Direct feed yesterday Nintendo didn't highlight one company outside of its own brand that is developing a game for the Wii U or even the 3DS.

Devil's Third a 'Wii U Exclusive'

June 10, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

Here's a pretty rare occurrence: a game that is not only on the Wii U in the first place but also "only on Wii U." A game being a Wii U exclusive and not a first party title is rarer than catching Bigfoot ordering 12 Big Macs at the McDonald's drive-thru.

Poll: Who Will Have the Biggest Gaffe During Its E3 Presentation?

June 6, 2014 - Andrew Eisen

The Electronics Entertainment Expo is next week and kicking it off is a round of press conferences where the biggest publishers will try and dazzle you with game announcements and spectacle in an attempt to win your dollars.

Of course, these presentations rarely go off without a hitch.  Everything from technical failures such as Nintendo's Skyward Sword demo from 2011 or EA's Battlefield 4 false start last year to horrible hosts such as "Mr. Caffeine" from Ubisoft's 2011 presser and Jamie Kennedy who MC'd Activision's show in 2007.

Poll: Is Forcing a Revenue Split With Let's Players in Nintendo's Best Interest?

May 28, 2014 - Andrew Eisen

Last year, Nintendo pissed off a good chunk of the internet by smacking a bunch of YouTube Let's Play videos with copyright claims, seeking to suck up all the ad revenue generated by videos of fans playing its games.

In the face of angry fans, something a company struggling to sell its new console really doesn't need, Nintendo backed off.

Nintendo Reveals $457 Million Loss for Fiscal Year

May 7, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

It's not a good time at Nintendo HQ this week. Today the maker of Wii U and 3DS revealed a 46.4 billion yen ($457 million) loss for its fiscal year ending March 31. This is the third year of annual operating losses in a row for the company.

The Wii U sold 2.72 million units over the last 12 months. Lifetime sales stand at 6.17 million units. That number is pretty disappointing for Nintendo if you consider how much longer it has been on the market. Sony's PS4, for example, has sold 7 million units since its released in Q4 2013.

MonteThough from a business side, i would agree with the article. While it would be smarter for developers to slow down, you can't expect EA, Activision or ubisoft to do something like that. Nintnedo's gotta get the third party back.02/28/2015 - 4:36pm
MonteThough it does also help that nintendo's more colorful style is a lot less reliant on graphics than more realistic games. Wind Waker is over 10 years old and still looks good for its age.02/28/2015 - 4:33pm
MonteWith the Wii, nintnedo had the right idea. Hold back on shiny graphics and focus on the gameplay experience. Unfortunatly everyone else keeps pushing for newer graphics and it matters less and less each generation. I can barely notice the difference02/28/2015 - 4:29pm
MonteON third party developers; i kinda think they should slow down to nintendo's pace. They bemoan the rising costs of AAA gaming, but then constantly push for the best graphics which is makes up a lot of those costs. Be easier to afford if they held back02/28/2015 - 4:27pm
Matthew Wilsonhttp://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2015/02/28/the-world-is-nintendos-if-only-theyd-take-it/ I think this is a interesting op-ed, but yeah it kind of is stating the obvious.02/28/2015 - 2:52pm
prh99The government probably doesn't need an app, but I was think more along the lines of a company that was going to sell the collected info. “If you're not paying for the product, you are the product” sometimes even if you pay.02/28/2015 - 1:50pm
E. Zachary KnightWhat better way for the government to keep track of you than to get you to install an app that lets you insult the government.02/28/2015 - 11:03am

Matthew Wilsonhttp://www.vg247.com/20…/…/27/olli-olli-3ds-wii-u-cross-buy/ I wounder if this is a sign that Nintendo may finally link accounts across the 3ds/wiiu in the near future.02/27/2015 - 9:18pm
