A Bluetooth ZX Spectrum replica keyboard on Kickstarter may have been fully funded, but a report on Eurogamer suggests that a number of ZX Spectrum game developers are angry with Maker Elite Systems and have leveled accusations at the company that have disgusted backers.

Infocom co-founder Dave Lebling will be giving a (long overdue?) postmortem talk on the classic text adventure Zork at GDC 2014. Lebling, who currently works as a Senior Principal Engineer at BAE Systems, created the "grue" and co-authored Zork I-III, as well as several other classic text adventures.

The Internet Archive is expanding its Historical Software Collection to include a free Console Living Room beta, which recreates some of the best classic '70s and '80s video game systems on the web for the sake of preserving history. The library currently includes hundreds of games for the Astrocade, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, ColecoVision, and Magnavox Odyssey. Naturally not every game is available for every system and some games don't currently have working sounds, but things are still being tweaked.

According to a recent interview with Oculus VR chief executive Brendan Iribe on GamesBeat, John Carmack is spearheading Oculus VR's mobile efforts. Carmack left id Software earlier in the year to work for the company out of its Dallas offices, and apparently he is spending a fair amount of his time focusing on mobile platforms.

Backers of Richard Garriott's and Portalarium's online-focused RPG Shroud of the Avatar, will get a taste of the game beginning today with the launch of Shroud of the Avatar Release 1. The early version of the game's client will allow players to log in to their accounts, download the client, create a character and begin to explore the streets of Owl's Head, the game's first town open for business. The release comes nine months after the project was announced by Portalarium in early March.

Sony Online Entertainment announced that its next annual fan gathering, SOE Live 2014, will be held at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas from Aug. 14 - Aug. 17, 2014. The 2014 event will celebrate 15 years of SOE's games, with activities and events that revolve around its line-up of games including DC Universe Online, Dragon's Prophet, EverQuest, EverQuest II, PlanetSide 2, Vanguard Saga of Heroes and the upcoming EverQuest Next Landmark and EverQuest Next.

According to CVG Sony is acquiring the rights to Crash Bandicoot from Activision. Crash Bandicoot became the official mascot of the first Sony PlayStation console and was a popular franchise for many years until it was sold as part of a deal with Vivendi.

Veteran video game industry executive Charles Bellfield passed away in San Francisco last night, according to a Facebook post by his brother Edward Bellfield. Friends and former colleagues from the games industry left their condolences and remembrances of Bellfield on Facebook, including Electronic Arts COO Peter Moore, whom Bellfield reported to at Sega when the company launched the Dreamcast console in 1999.

Moore called Bellfield "the quintessential Englishman Abroad" as well as "a great friend, a wonderful personality."

G3 Studios and Guido Henkel have launched the Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for Deathfire: Ruins of Nethermore, a new first-person, party-based role-playing game with a focus on story and character development. The game is being developed by G3 Studios and overseen by Guido Henkel, who has worked on such RPG hits as Planescape: Torment, the Realms of Arkania Trilogy, Fallout II, and many other games.

G3 Studios wants to get out in front of an upcoming crowd-funding campaign to bankroll its upcoming PC role-playing game, Deathfire: Ruins of Nethermore. Deathfire: Ruins of Nethermore is described as a first-person, party-based role-playing game with a heavy emphasis on story and character development. A prototype of the game is already in development by G3 Studios (using the Unity engine), and veteran role-playing game designer/producer Guido Henkel is leading the project.

Jagex announced today that one million users have joined its retro MMO RuneScape Old School since it launched in January of this year. As the name would imply RuneScape Old School lets players jump in the popular online game world that put Jagex on the map.

According to a report on Gamasutra, the rhetoric is heating up between the makers of the unlicensed hand-held device, the Neo Geo X, and the classic Neo Geo platform owners.

Author Tom Clancy died last night, according to the New York Times. Tom Clancy was 66-years-old. Most in the world knows Tom Clancy for his bestselling novels about the military, espionage, government corruption, and spying that have spawned an unstoppable empire of movie and video game franchises.

It looks like Mega Man series creator Keiji Inafune's spiritual successor to that popular franchise from Capcom will be coming to the PS3, Xbox 360, and (wait for it) Wii U. The official Kickstarter recently hit a stretch goal of $2.2 million, which promised to bring the game to the aforementioned platforms if it was met. Another stretch goal - $3.3 million, will enable the developers to bring the game to Xbox One and PS4 if it is met.

A Kickstarter campaign has launched for a reboot of the original hit franchise Mutant Football League. Michael Mendheim, the original creator and lead designer of Mutant League, has launched a Kickstarter to raise funds for an all new game called "Mutant Football League."

Blue Byte Software's Battle Isle series is making a come-back, but it won't be handled by Blue Byte Software and it won't happen (at least as quickly) without some of your money. A new game is being developed by Stratotainment and Thomas Hertzler, the co-founder of Blue Byte. Hertzler sold the company to Ubisoft in 2001. Blue Byte is best known for the Battle Isle series, the spin-off Incubation series, and it's most popular franchise, The Settlers.

In an editorial on GamesBeat, Xbox visionary and original team member at Microsoft Ed Fries defended the Ouya against criticism about its success. Fries, who is advising the company on its recently released Android-based console, said that the system cannot be judged by old industry metrics on success because he's unsure what success looks like in today's shifting market.

After disappearing for over a month because of contractual issues with Atari, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is back on sale for various platforms.

A new attack ad from the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) pays homage to the classic Nintendo light gun game Duck Hunt while assailing Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana. The ad features the famous backdrop of the Duck Hunt game and displays ducks marked with various issues - such as Obamacare, energy, taxes, and 12,000 jobs for the Gulf Coast - that Sen. Landrieu "misses" on. At the end of the 41-second ad, a familiar dog laughs at all of the antics.

Roberts Space Industries announced that its upcoming space simulation Star Citizen (being helmed by Chris Roberts - creator of Wing Commander and Privateer) has raised over $15 million through crowd-funding. The crowdfunding cash comes from a combination of money raised through a highly successful Kickstarter campaign and crowd-funding efforts on the Roberts Space Industries company and Star Citizen web sites.

Portalarium announced today that Starr Long has joined the team developing Shroud of the Avatar. Long and Ultima series creator Richard Garriott have collaborated in the past on such projects as Ultima Online and Tabula Rasa. Prior to joining Portalarium, Long worked as executive producer at The Walt Disney Company where he oversaw the Disney Interactive studio responsible for Pirates of the Caribbean Online, Pixie Hollow and Toontown.
