You know you are starting to get a bad reputation when you have to assure customers that your "game will work" at launch. That is what Visceral Games is saying today about Battlefield Hardline, the company's militarized police versus dangerous criminals shooter. The spin-off game based ever-so-loosely on DICE's popular military shooter series is being developed by Dead Space creators Visceral Games, in case you didn't know.

Free-to-play online games company NEXON Co., Ltd. has launched a new division within the company called ‘Nexon XP’ and shuffled some of its top executives. The new division will be dedicated to working with external development talent to bring their free-to-play games into the Nexon free-to-play games portal.

Hacking Group Lizard Squad is taking responsibility for knocking Destiny and Call of Duty: Ghosts servers offline with DDoS attacks today. This is the same group that took credit for a DDoS attack that took down the PlayStation Network last month and took credit for calling in a bomb threat that caused Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley's plane to be diverted.

2K Games and developer Gearbox have finally finished transitioning the PC version of Borderlands away from GameSpy (for multiplayer features) to Steamworks. The game has been without a working multiplayer mode since the Gamespy multiplayer service shut down on May 31.

Over the weekend MMO maker Trion Worlds found itself targeted by a DDoS attack by an unknown party, affecting all of its games - including ArcheAge, RIFT, Defiance, and Trove.

According to TenTon Hammer the attacks started on Sept. 13. Trion Worlds' Twitter account indicated in its last update - which was on Sept. 13, noted that its services were still under attack:

The videos below suggest that there's a cheat being used in Bungie's freshly released online game Destiny that gives players greasy enough to use it the ability to have unlimited ammo. The exploit allows the user to shoot indefinitely without the need to reload or pick up more ammo.

Bungie says that it is aware of players on college campuses having trouble playing Destiny and that it is looking into the problem to find a solution. Some players on college campuses are loudly complaining about getting the Centipede Error message, which relates to college networks that don't support or actively block activities like gaming.

While details on the exact nature of a new Diablo III exploit (thanks Blue's News) uncovered by players and already being investigated by the developer is unknown at this time, there are some concerns within the community that the problem will receive a hotfix without offering any kind of punitive action against players who are gleefully exploiting it.

Relic Entertainment said back in May of this year that ridding Dawn of War 2 and Chaos Rising of its Games For Windows Live multiplayer components was going to take a lot of extra work. Apparently it wasn't kidding around, because it took them until today to implement a different solution for people still playing the game.

Jagex, makers of the long-running fantasy MMORPG RuneScape, are highlighting what it calls "the continued success of RuneScape Bonds." Since their launch, Bonds have enabled players to access premium membership content, exchange them with other community members for in-game items and wealth, and gift them to friends around the world.

Puppy Games has launched a Patreon to fund the ongoing development of its free MMO Battledroid. While the small indie studio continues to work on it, it has come to the conclusion that the MMO needs at least another year of development time and it does not have enough money to fund that effort. So they decided to turn to Patreon instead of other crowdfunding methods like Indiegogo or Kickstarter to raise some funds.

Original Story: EVE Online maker CCP Games announced during its latest financial report that it is shutting down its San Francisco-based game development studio and letting two executives go. The news comes on the heels of the company reporting a downturn in year-over-year profits.

A series of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks have targeted several popular online games including MMOs RuneScape and Eve Online, according to this Develop report. These attacks have (naturally) caused sporadic outages and limited players' ability to log into these games.

The ESL announced that the ESL One Cologne 2014 event saw peak online concurrent viewership of more than 409,368 during the Counter Strike: Global Offensive match in-game or online. In addition Twitch saw 343,638 peak concurrent viewers, beating a record set in March by 153 percent.

"It's amazing to see the growth of Counter Strike: Global Offensive in the eSports community. Just five months after ESL One Katowice, we see ESL One Cologne 2014 break our previous record by an amazing 161 per cent," said the ESL's Ulrich Schulze.

Free-to-play MMO shooter Robocraft has managed to surpass one million registered players since its release on Steam Early Access. While an early build of the game was available prior to being released on Steam's Early Access, developer Freejam says that putting it on Steam has helped drive the game's user base significantly.

HBO's documentary film about game addiction in South Korea will premiere tonight at 9:00 PM ET. The film, "Love Child," tells the story of two South Korean parents who were so addicted to the Korean MMO Prius that they neglected their three-month-old child to the point that he died. They were later charged by police.

BioWare's Star Wars MMO remains strong, and World of Warcraft is still leading the MMO space with subscriptions by a wide margin, according to new data from research group SuperData.

According to that data, EA's Star Wars MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, made $165 million in revenue worldwide last year. That figure comes from revenue generated by subscriptions, expansion packs and microtransactions.

Riot Games has decided to remove the ability to use League of Legends skin codes in-game as an attempt to stop third-party resellers and scammers from ripping players off. The company made the announcement via an official forum post detailing the changes.

The Command & Conquer community has launched a server to keep multiplayer going in a number of C&C games that had been abandoned by GameSpy Technologies, who once provided multiplayer services for the popular PC real-time strategy games. According to this Eurogamer report, users interested in playing online can visit C&C: Online, register with Revora and install a launcher which emulates GameSpy servers.

Riot Games announced that the public chat rooms related to its ultra-popular MOBA game League of Legends have been shut down, and while they plan on brining something back to take their place at some point, the space was so awful that the developer felt it had to do something about it.

The company handles accounts for a number of SOE titles including PlanetSide 2, DC Universe Online and EverQuest 2, and many others. Soon users of those games will have to transfer their accounts to Sony Online Entertainment.

A study of online Call of Duty players found that women who sent out friend requests were more likely to be accepted if they behaved in polite and positive manner during play. Those women who talked trash during matches were less likely to have a friend request accepted. On the flip side, males who talked trash during online play sessions were more likely to have a friend request accepted than those who were polite or remained quiet during a match.

The winner of Monday's DreamHack Hearthstone tournament has been accused of cheating by the community - even though organizers have reviewed the situation and given both participants a "pass," and the loser of the event says that the winner beat him fair and square. The trouble revolves around the winner, Radu 'RDU' Dima, who apparently received Battle.net messages from friends while the finals were taking place. Dima eventually bested Team Liquid's Jason 'Amaz' Chan by 3-0 to take home a $10,000 prize pot.

Security research firm and anti-virus software maker Malwarebytes is warning players of Valve's popular MOBA game DOTA 2 to beware of nasty phishing schemes. The firm says in a new blog post that there is a new phishing scam making the rounds that offers "rare in-game items in exchange for a Yahoo email address and password," according to Malware intelligence analyst Chris Boyd at Malwarebytes.

Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson is not happy that some in the Minecraft community have called Mojang "literally worse than EA" after a recent update to the Minecraft end-user agreement. Writing on his personal blog, Notch explained the recent changes to Minecraft's EULA.

GOG.com today unveiled what it calls an "optional client" to facilitate cross play multiplayer regardless of where you buy a game from. The client software, which the company says is "DRM-free" in theory will allow those who buy games from services like Steam to play their game in Galaxy without the need for logging into a service with a user account.

Epic Games and former GSC Game World developers have released updates to deal with Glu Mobile shutting down GameSpy Technologies' multiplayer services. Epic Games has released a new executable replacement file that redirects online play requests to a new in-house master server.

Relic Entertainment has indicated plans to move its Warhammer 40K strategy games over to Steam in a bid to keep the multiplayer portions of the games alive, Eurogamer reports. The original Dawn of War and the expansions recently underwent a major update to preserve multiplayer, Dawn of War franchise design lead Philippe Boulle wrote on the Steam forum.

Game developer Splash Damage has renamed its upcoming free-to-play online shooter Extraction to Dirty Bomb. The game was originally called Dirty Bomb but the company changed the name because of the sensitivities surrounding terrorist attacks in the UK. The game was renamed Extraction in August 2013, but Nexon said in a release today that Dirty Bomb better fits the game's "unique personality."
