Gamasutra is reporting (based on this AP report) that the government of Thailand has banned Tropico 5 in the country. Why, you may ask, would they do that? According to the report, the government is worried that people will play the game and be compelled to rebel against the rule of law there.

The PC Gaming Alliance has formally and officially changed its name to the "Open Gaming Alliance" (or OGA, for short). The group said that it changed its name in recognition of the changing dominance of platforms within the digital gaming market. Sales of the PC and Mac versions of Minecraft have surpassed 16 million copies, according to developer Mojang's official site for the game. The impressive number is up from up from the 15 million copies the company revealed in April and the 14 million copies it announced in February.

Minecraft Pocket Edition sales surpassed 21 million units in April, while 12 million copies of Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition had been sold as of February, according to Mojang's internal sales figures.

Real-money in gaming technology company Gamblit Gaming has announced partnerships with Shanda Games International Europe, Gamiker and Flexball. All three companies will eventually utilize Gamblit Gaming’s mobile platform technology to let companies to add real money gaming mechanics to any mobile or PC game.

UK-based Dovetail Games announced that it has signed a global licensing deal with Microsoft to develop and publish all-new games based on Microsoft’s popular flight simulation technology. The company said in a press release today that it is currently investigating new concepts in this area and is expecting to bring a release to market in 2015.

Dovetail Games also announced that it acquired the rights to distribute Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition via Steam. The new release on Steam will be sold under the name, Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition.

The Command & Conquer community has launched a server to keep multiplayer going in a number of C&C games that had been abandoned by GameSpy Technologies, who once provided multiplayer services for the popular PC real-time strategy games. Steam has broken the 8 million concurrent users milestone for the first time in its history - thanks mostly to its popular summer sale. On Sunday evening over 8 million gamers were using the service at the same time as the Steam Summer Sale began to wind down.

The last milestone for concurrent users on Steam - according to its stats page was around 7.5 million, which occurred over Christmas 2013. The new record high of 8,020,834 was recorded at 16:03 PDT on Sunday June 29.

The Steam Summer Sale ends at 10am PDT today.

GII is reporting this morning that UK-based developer Rebellion has revoked thousands of Sniper Elite 3 Steam keys after - it claims - a retailer suffered a "security breach" which resulted in stolen keys being sold to customers through various means online. The game took the top spot in the UK charts for the most recently recorded week, according to Chart-Track.

Microsoft continues to refute that it is shutting Games For Windows Live down in July. In August of last year a support update on Xbox.com stated, "Games for Windows Live will be discontinued on July 1, 2014". That message was later removed and Microsoft has denied that it is shutting down the multiplayer service for PC games ever since.

Ubisoft has issued a statement attempting to explain why the PC version of Watch Dogs included unused graphical options hidden within its game files. The company also said that a mod enabling these features is not a good thing for PC users because it can cause a number of unwanted technical and gameplay issues.

The winner of Monday's DreamHack Hearthstone tournament has been accused of cheating by the community - even though organizers have reviewed the situation and given both participants a "pass," and the loser of the event says that the winner beat him fair and square. The trouble revolves around the winner, Radu 'RDU' Dima, who apparently received Battle.net messages from friends while the finals were taking place. Dima eventually bested Team Liquid's Jason 'Amaz' Chan by 3-0 to take home a $10,000 prize pot.

Microsoft hasn't been the best of friends with the PC gaming community over the last few years.
