I consider myself pretty savvy as far as video game stuff goes but I'll admit, for some reason I just can't wrap my head around what the Playstation TV is for or why anyone would want one.

Kind of like the Steam Box.

Wii U ain't doing so hot.  Two years out and its sold less than seven million units worldwide (as of June 30).  Many said, "Wait until Mario comes out!  No, not New Super Mario Bros. U, a real 3D Mario game!"

Super Mario 3D World came out last year, sold over two million units (New Super Mario Bros. U sold over four million) and Wii U sold about two million units that holiday.  Not great but not bad.  Unfortunately, there was no sales momentum and the Wii U only sold about 300k in the next quarter.

Microsoft announced on Monday that it has acquired Minecraft developer Mojang for $2.5 billion.

That's a lot of money.

Earlier this week, Bungie community manager David "Deej" Dague mentioned that the recently-released online FPS Destiny, "really begins at Level 20."

A Final Fantasy-fanatic friend of mine who enthusiastically exclaims that Final Fantasy XIII gets good around the 30-hour mark.

I've been known to tell people that Monster Hunter is THE MOST AWESOME THING EVER!!! (...after you slog through the first five hours of gathering mushrooms and mining rocks.)

This week's poll asked if the New Nintendo 3DS would be region free.  Nintendo answered that for us this morning when it confirmed that it would indeed continue the archaic practice of region locking its gaming hardware.

Oh well.

I guess we need a new poll but it's a bit late in the week so how about something goofy?

UPDATE: Never mind.  Nintendo has confirmed that the New 3DS will be region locked.

Many were positive that Google would be the one to buy Twitch but nope!  Amazon picked up the video-streaming service for a cool billion dollars.

For its part, Amazon says that "Twitch is absolutely doing a great job and we don't want to change that at all."

When I was a kid, every mall had a video game arcade.  I'd beg Mom to let me hang out in the arcade while she did the shopping.  Even though I didn't have any money, I loved watching other people play.  Hell, even the "attract modes" would capture my attention and keep me entertained.

Leland Yee, best known to GP readers as the California state senator who wasted over 1.3 million tax payer dollars in a failed bid to introduce a law that would criminalize the sale of particularly violent video games to minors, was arrested earlier this year and brought up on federal racketeering charges.

Yee is accused of a bunch of unsavory deeds ranging from soliciting bribes in exchange for political favors to attempting to broker an arms deal.

I use Time Warner Cable for my broadband internet service.  Why?  Because I have no choice.  TWC is the only provider available in my area.  It's either TWC or no wired internet.

You may have noticed that when it comes to broadband internet service in America, you almost certainly have only one option for a service provider - if you have an option at all, that is.  There are plenty of rural areas that have no service, period.

If you're a Verizon customer, you might have experienced less than optimal performance when trying to stream movies from Netflix.  If you're not a Verizon customer, well, word on the street is that Netflix doesn't perform so hot for Verizon customers.

Netflix says it's Verizon's fault.  Verizon says it's Netflix's fault?

Who do you think is to blame?  Netflix?  Verizon?  One of those intermediaries like Level 3 or Cogent?  Gremlins?  The Illuminati perhaps?
