If you put all the sales for your most recent consoles together it looks pretty impressive. That's what Sony did revealed via a new promotional video that it has sold 100 million PS3, PS4, and PS Vita systems to-date, collectively. Of course the lion's share of that number belongs to the PS3, which has sold 80 million units since its release many moons ago to November 2013.

In the past Sony said that - since its release in November of last year more than 7 million PS4 systems have been sold as of April 6.

Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House said during a presentation at the Develop conference today that the company changed its 2013 E3 script at the last minute because of fan reaction to various missteps by Microsoft on a number of issues - particularly its stance on used games. House emphasized that it never changed its policies in response to Microsoft but it did tweak its E3 press conference presentation to highlight the PS4's strengths.

Sony will begin rolling out its PlayStation Now beta to select models of its smart TVs in the United States next week, the company announced today. Beginning June 30, owners of Sony 4K Ultra HDTV sets and select 1080p HDTVs will get access to the "Private Pilot Service."

The beta test for PlayStation Now on these select TVs will allow participants to play PlayStation 3 games on their television with no console required, though they will have to connect a DualShock 3 controller to the TV to play the streamed PS3 games.

Forget about retail sales - which current console from Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo is the most popular on social media state-by-state? According to real estate blog Movoto, Microsoft's Xbox One is the most popular based on data culled from Facebook "likes" by state.

Around 22 states had a larger fan count for the Xbox One, compared to the PS4’s 19 states. Not one state went for the Wii U.

Sony claims that nearly a third of current PlayStation 4 owners owned a Wii or an Xbox 360. Around 31 percent of consumers who bought a PlayStation 4 had an Xbox 360 or Wii but not a PS3 in the last hardware generation, PlayStation's American VP of marketing John Koller told Kotaku in an interview conducted at E3.

The data Koller was citing comes from a new research study - the origins of which are not revealed. Koller also said that as nearly 17 percent of people who have bought a PS4 didn't own a console at all in the previous generation.

After last night's press conference Sony released further information on the Glacier White PlayStation 4 and pricing on games available on its PlayStation Now service. Sony said that the special Glacier White edition of the 500GB PS4 console that will be bundled with Bungie's Destiny will cost $449. It will also come with a glacier white DualShock 4 controller, a copy of Destiny and a 30-day PlayStation Plus voucher.

Prior to the launch of its two-hour E3 press conference, Sony released a trailer for Killzone: Shadowfall Intercept online. Intercept basically adds four-player coop to the game from Guerilla Games.

If you loathe credit cards and think PayPal is the best digital payment solution since the penny was minted then you'll be happy to hear that you can now use it to buy things on Sony's newest PlayStation console. Sony announced today that PayPal is available on PS4 for people who live in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Chile and Argentina. Console owners still have the option to add funds using a credit card or PSN card as well.

Two free games a month from Xbox Live? Sony is upping the ante by announcing that, starting in July, PS Plus subscribers (divided up amongst PS3, PS4, and PS Vita) will get two titles per platform on the first Tuesday of each month in North America and the first Wednesday every month in Europe. The previous month's titles will expire on that same day, Sony announced Thursday.

Sony says that it plans to "rigorously pursue" PS4 sales - even if it is to the detriment of profits in the short term. The company's goal, according to Sony CEO Kaz Hirai, is to increase its installed base around the world. Hirai said that there is huge revenue potential that will come with expanding the reach of Sony's network.

Sony has signed a partnership in China - much like Microsoft has already - to manufacture and sell its PlayStation consoles on the mainland. The deal, part of two joint ventures with Shanghai Oriental Pearl, gives Sony access to China's estimated 500 million gamers in China.

During a corporate strategy meeting this week (detailed in this document) Sony president and CEO Kazuo Hirai said that the PlayStation 4 is already profitable for Sony on a hardware unit basis.

Mojang's best selling open world building game Minecraft is about to generate more revenue for the company when new versions are released this August. Mojang has confirmed the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Minecraft will launch in early August.

A new report from the Natural Resource Defense Council concludes that the newest generation of game consoles consumer way too much power. The report notes that these new systems are on track to consume as much power nationwide as all the homes in Houston this year. That equates to about $1 billion to operate these systems annually.

Much of this energy is consumed in "the middle of the night, when the console is in standby mode but still listening for voice commands or using higher power than necessary to keep USB ports active."

Retail sales numbers for the month of April show that the PS4 edged out the Xbox One in sales, according to data from NPD Group. Sony's PlayStation 4 was the top-selling game console in the United States in April, making it the fourth month in a row the PS4 has outsold Microsoft's Xbox One, according to the NPD Group.

Prior to Sony reporting its consolidated results for the fiscal year ending March 31, CEO Kazuo Hirai and other executives will not be taking bonuses this year, according to the Wall Street Journal.

They may also take a 50 percent pay cut this year, according to the report. Sony's exit from the PC business as well as consumer disinterest in physical media such as DVDs and Blu-ray discs are the main reason for these reductions in pay and bonuses.

According to multiple sources within the company, Microsoft plans to lift the Xbox Live Gold requirement for consumers who want to watch Netflix, Hulu and other streaming media apps on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Basically it means that consumers who buy a brand new Xbox One will be able to watch these services right out of the box without having to worry about having an Xbox Live Gold account. Of course you'll still have to set up a free Silver account in order to do anything.

Sony announced today that it expects to report a net loss of 130 billion yen ($1.3 billion) for the 12 month period that ended on March 31, 2014. That compares with a loss of 110 billion yen ($1.1 billion) forecast in February, a reduction from its October 2013 projection of a 30 billion yen ($294 million) profit. Sony won't report its consolidated results for the fiscal year until May 14, but it published a preliminary earnings report on Thursday to get investors prepared for the news.

Monthly US retail sales of PlayStation 4 once again outpaced sales of Xbox One in March, according to NPD figures. March marks the third month in a row that Sony's PS4 beat Microsoft's Xbox One at retail in the United States, with hardware sales up overall by 78 percent compared to the same period last year.

Sony and developer Sucker Punch are happy to announce that their first-party PlayStation 4 title InFamous: Second Son has sold through over 1 million digital and physical copies worldwide in its first nine days after launch. The super-hero/villain themed open-world action game is one of the first significant releases this year for the PlayStation 4, topping the digital charts on PlayStation Network in both North America and Europe, according to Sony.

GameStop reported sales of $3.68 billion for the forth-quarter of 2013, a 3.4 percent increase over the $3.56 billion the company reported in the same period a year ago. It comes as no surprise that the retailer attributed the increase in sales to the launches of Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One in November of last year.

Sony says that it is considering allowing software to be "pre-loaded" on to its PlayStation 4 console. Speaking to Polygon, a Sony rep. told the publication that the company is aware that consumers want this feature.

The PlayStation 4 will continue to be "supply constrained" until this summer, according to what PlayStation boss Andrew House tells The Wall Street Journal.

We're struggling to keep up with demand," House said, noting highest demand is in the US and Europe. "Conservatively, as we get into the early summer months, we'll be closer to a full supply situation."

There were rumors floating about last week that the PlayStation Store would offer rental options to customers as part of its Gaikai-powered streaming service for older PS3 games. It turns out that there is some truth to it.

Ubisoft is apparently comfortable enough to give us a concrete date for the release of its open world game Watch Dogs. Much to the chagrin of Wii U owners, the company only offered a vague timeframe of "available at a later date." That later date will be sometime after the game releases worldwide on May 27 for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Hopefully this will be the last time the game gets delayed.

According to this Polygon report, video games retailer GameStop is engaging in a little bit of price gouging. According to the report, the retailer has raised the price of the PS4 camera peripheral to $69.99. When Sony announced the peripheral back in 2013 it carried a suggested retail price of $59. Last month the device was listed at that price point, but recently the PS4 camera has been scarce or sold out at most major retailers in the United States.

PS4 digital and retail software sales approach 14 million units, according to Sony. The company claims that global sales of games are well over 13.7 million units as of March 2.

New documents from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden cited in a new Guardian report indicate that UK spy agency GCHQ evaluated the potential of using the Xbox 360 (and now Xbox One) Kinect peripheral as a means to spy on people. The report also indicates that the agency also considered the usefulness of the PlayStation Eye as well.

The PlayStation 4 went on sale in Japan on February 24, and according to Japanese publication Famitsu, the system sold a repeatable 320,000 hardware units. Believe it or not, the two day sales figures are a lot better than they were for Sony's last console launch in the region; the PlayStation 3 sold 88,443 units in its first two days of release in Japan. The PlayStation 2 remains Sony's fastest selling console in Japan to date, hitting 630,552 units in its first two days on sale.
