RIP, Ryan Davis

Giant Bomb co-founder and longtime GameSpot writer Ryan Davies died on July 3 of unknown causes, Giant Bomb announced this morning. He was 34-years-old. Fans, colleagues, friends and the games industry expressed their deep sorrow on Facebook and Twitter as the news broke. Congressional Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Calls for More Research on Violent Video Games

Yesterday Congressman Mike Thompson (D-CA) released "A Comprehensive Plan That Reduces Gun Violence and Respects the 2nd Amendment Rights of Law-Abiding Americans," which details the recommendations of the " Congressional Gun Violence Prevention Task Force." While there are plenty of recommendations on guns and curbing gun violence, mental health issues and school safety, there is a portion of the report dedicated to violent media.

According to this Foxnews.com report, the National Rifle Association (NRA) plans to hold a press conference on Friday where it will push back against the call for tighter gun control laws in the United States. An anonymous "industry source" tells Fox News that the NRA is prepared to point its finger at the culture of violent media found in various forms of entertainment including television, movies, and video games.

Jack Thompson to ECA: 'Maybe Now You'll Get It!'

Disbarred Florida Attorney and anti-game crusader Jack Thompson seems to have come out of hiding to talk about the as-of-yet unestablished link between video media and the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday. In an attempt to connect with the Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA), Thompson decided to leave a voice mail message for ECA President Hal Halpin. The roughly 35 second-long message from Thompson is equivalent to an "I-told-you-so" to Halpin, gamers, and the non-profit.

Final Update: A number of things about our previous story are proving to be erroneous as more details about the shooting today in Newtown, Connecticut comes to light. Here is what we know so far:

Adam Lanza, and not Ryan Lanza (his older brother) has been identified as the shooter. His brother Ryan Lanza, who lives in Hoboken, New Jersey is being questioned by police. Lanza's father, who lives in Connecticut, was similarly questioned, one of the law enforcement officials said.
