To celebrate 15 years in business Amazon UK has released its best selling games list of all time, and the Call of Duty series is prominently highlighted throughout. According to Amazon UK, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (all platforms) is the best selling game in the service's history, followed by Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3, Grand Theft Auto V (which has only been out since September in the UK), and Black Ops 2.

Wargaming has teamed up with the British Royal Air Force (RAF) Museum to share its newly acquired exhibit – the Dornier Do17 bomber - with the world. Using an "Augmented Reality App" created by Wargaming called Apparition: Dornier17, visitors can see a full scale, 3D vision of the aircraft at various locations around the world. In June, the Museum successfully lifted the only known German Dornier Do17 bomber from the waters of the Goodwin Sands, three miles off the coast of England.

Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V has become the 12th best-selling game of all time in the UK, overtaking its predecessor's lifetime sales - and only after three weeks at retail - according to UK retail sales tracking firm Chart-Track. The firm reports that GTA V sold 1.57 million units in the UK on day one of release, beating out previous record holder Call of Duty: Black Ops' 1.41 million in sales to become the fastest-selling game in UK history.

Scotland has decided that it needs its own trade body that better represents its unique perspective and business in the region. The new trade body is called the Scottish Games Network. The group wants to serve as a unified contact point in Scotland for every company in the video game sector including developers, tech companies, retailers, media, and academic institutions.

In an editorial for MCV, Professor Mark Griffiths, the director of the International Gaming Research Unit at Nottingham Trent University, responds to a story that ran in UK paper The Mirror that put the blame on the Washington Navy Yard Shooting squarely on the Aaron Alexis' fascination with Call of Duty.

The latest "Children and Parents Media Use and Attitudes Report" from UK regulatory agency OfCom shows a decline in console ownership for the first time in the region. The report notes that 87 percent of children live in a UK household with a home or portable games console - compared to 90 percent in 2012. Around 66 percent of children ages 3-4 have a console; 78 percent for the 5 - 7-year-olds have a console system at home, and 91 percent of 8 - 11-year-olds said they have a console in the home. The report notes that every age bracket decreased, compared to 2012.

Sales of boxed games have climbed for the first time in the UK since December 2008, thanks to Grand Theft Auto V. According to CVG - citing data from MCV - Rockstar's latest game has sold more than 2.6 million units in the UK in two weeks, accounting for half of all boxed games sold in September.

The UK's Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is warning app and game developers that high-pressure monetization in programs that are aimed at children needs to be avoided going forward. The OFT made its announcement today after months of investigation (which began in April) into allegations that some free online apps and games for children were using questionable tactics to get children to purchase in-game items - often without parental consent. The OFT examined 38 games related to this practice and drafted a set of guidelines for UK developers.

No doubt the Daily Mail (who loves publishing stories about the "evil influence" of video games on the UK's youth) is happy to report on what a judge had to say about a 15-year-old boy's bank raid at a Barclays bank in Liverpool, on Friday.

A study from UK-based research firm YouGov (as unearthed by Gamasutra) finds that people who think that playing violent video games can lead to real-world violence like mass shootings tend to be older and have no familiarity with playing games.

Deputy United Kingdom prime minister Nick Clegg apparently believes that games like Grand Theft Auto V can have a "corrosive effect" on player behavior. Speaking on his LBC Radio show today he cited unknown research to malign video games and the people that play them.

Hawick (a town far to the south of Edinburgh, Scotland) councilor David Paterson says that a district in Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto V with the same name could hurt the reputation of the town. Speaking to the BBC, Paterson said that he was disgusted to learn that a "druggie hipster" district is named after his town:

After 23 years of doing business, UK game development studio Blitz Games will close, reports GII. At total of 175 employees will be laid off as a result, but management hopes to form a new company and hire back at least 50 of those employees. Blitz founders Philip and Andrew Oliver said that the company will continue working in two projects.

A game tester who worked for a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe studio in the United Kingdom has been paid £4,600 for helping to test Killzone: Mercenary for three months in 2012. The payout is the result of a settlement between SCEE and tester Chris Jarvis, who claimed that he had to work nine-hour-days at Guerrilla Cambridge as an intern.

UK-based games industry-focused publication Develop has announced that it has shuffled a number of its editors around this week, mostly spurred by the departure of Intent Media founder Stuart Dinsey. Intent Media owned both MCV and Develop, and operates the London Games Conference. Intent Media was acquired by New York-based NewBay Media in December 2012.

TIGA, the trade organization that represents the video games industry in the United Kingdom, has announced the addition of six new board members this week.

The new members of the board are Halli Bjornsson, CEO of Lockwood Publishing; Gary Bracey, Commercial Director at Kuju Entertainment; Elaine Green of Nellyvision; Catharina Lavers Mallet, Head of UK Studios for King; Nizar Romdhane, Director of Ecosystem, Marketing, Media Processing Division, ARM; and Stuart Whyte, Studio Director at Lionhead. Mark Gerhard of Jagex becomes Vice-Chairman.

A new briefing from Public Health England (an agency of the Department of Health in the United Kingdom) suggests that children who spend a lot of time watching television, surfing the Internet, and playing video games, are more likely to have lower levels of wellbeing than their more active peers.

Update: Politico is reporting that the White House knew that David Miranda would be stopped at London's Heathrow Airport before it happened, but it also denied any involvement in the incident.

"This is a decision that they made on their own and not at the request of the United States," White House principal deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said.

Deep Silver has announced an insane gag SKU for Saint's Row IV called the "Dangerous Wad Edition." Sure, it's a marketing joke to draw attention to the upcoming release of Deep Silver's Saint's Row IV and UK retailer GAME's REAL SKUs for the game, but it sure is interesting - especially if someone was insane enough to purchase it.

InnoGames says that its advertising campaign on television in the United Kingdom has helped the company's free-to-play strategy game Forge of Empires surpass the 10 million registered user mark. The ads have been running for several weeks in the UK, with InnoGames planning a long-term TV campaign for the title.

The Video Standards Council has published its first annual report since it was designated as the UK's regulatory body for classifying video games on July 30, 2012. The report covers the last 5 months of 2012, and offers a brief history of the VSC, a description of what it does, and how it uses PEGI in the UK for all types of games.

The most interesting aspect of the new report is just how many games were classified and under what category for the UK.

UKIE, the trade body that represents the video game industry in the UK, says that it feels "pretty confident" that the tax break proposal will be approved by the European Union and that the doubts raised by the EU Commission over taxpayers contributing to the proposed relief will evaporate. Last year, the UK government approved tax breaks for the country's games sector, promising to provide 25 percent tax relief on 80 percent of the budget for qualifying UK-made games.

As it often likes to do, the UK paper the Daily Mail tries to pin the death of a 16-year-old on "too much excitement" while playing a Sonic the Hedgehog game on his "Xbox."

The video games industry in the United Kingdom should have had tax breaks by now but the European Commission's questions on certain parts of the UK's proposals (mainly having to do with UK cultural tests) have stalled efforts so far. This week UK trade body TIGA urged the EU Commission to make a decision, reports Gamasutra.

London's Victoria & Albert Museum has hit a milestone of sorts this week. It has appointed it's very first Game Designer in Residence - Sophia George of Swallowtail Games. The BAFTA Award-winning game designer will work closely with the V&A museum and the University of Abertay Dundee to emphasize the history of British game design. She will release a game related to the residency by the summer of 2014. Game Designer in Residence is also supported by The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment (UKIE).

According to a survey of male customers conducted by UK video game retailer GAME (and reported on by the Daily Record), approximately 39 percent of British men said they would rather play games than do anything on a bank holiday (a public holiday in the UK).

Earlier this month we told you about a Capcom UK PR event to promote Resident Evil: Revelations in London. The event, which would let visitors swim in a pool filled with simulated blood, gore, and body parts (and featured zombies as lifeguards), was scheduled for this weekend.

The BBC reports that four members of the hacktivist group LulzSec based in the United Kingdom have been sentenced this week. They are Ryan Cleary, Jake Davis, Mustafa al-Bassam and Ryan Ackroyd. All four pled guilty to various charges either last year or earlier this year.
