On CNN's State of the Union with host Candy Crowley, Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TENN.) sat in on a panel discussion about gun control and the likelihood of legislation being passed by the current Congress. But instead of discussing gun control, Blackburn decided to take a few shots at Activision's Call of Duty series. Blackburn said that in preparation to appear on the show she watched some video of the game and was shocked at the violence she saw... she also called the game "Call to Duty."

On Friday morning's edition of Morning Joe on cable news network MSNBC Congressman Tim Huelskamp (R-Kansas) said that he doesn't think changes in guns laws would have stopped the Sandy Elementary School shooting last week that resulted in the death of 20 children and six adults. He also talked about violent video games, but to the congressman's credit he mentioned his own parental responsibility in keeping his son from playing "M" rated games.

According to this Reddit thread Sega has been forcing YouTube users to remove videos relating to the Sega Saturn hit strategy RPG Shining Force III. Many are speculating that Sega is doing this to prepare for the launch of a new PSP installment in the Shining series, Shining Ark, which will launch in Japan in February.

While Hulu Plus didn't make the content cut on Wii U's entertainment channel on launch day, it appears that the app for the popular movie and TV streaming service is available for use today, according to this Destructoid report. In case you didn't know, the Wii U Gamepad offers some enhancements to the service above other platforms - it serves as a second screen. It's hard to deny that these types of features are cool...

After a few days of not being able to use the "@" character in passwords, Netflix has said this morning that the problem is now fixed. The problem relates to the new Netflix app that was launched this weekend alongside the Wii U's retail release in North America. Netflix subscribers that used the "@" character in passwords were forced to change them because the character was not allowed in the Wii U app. Now Netflix says that everything is fixed.

The final battle in Slate's Political Kombat ’12 is about to go down, but this time the community gets to decide who goes on the be the president of the arena and who gets dragged off to the local mortuary. Previous battles in Slate's video series inspired by the gory combat of the Mortal Kombat series included Mitt Romney versus Rick Santorum and Herman Cain, Romney versus Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul, President Obama versus Donald Trump, and Paul Ryan versus Joe Biden.

Slate has released the fourth episode of its Political Kombat ’12 video series, which retells the story of the 2012 presidential race in a succession of animated video game fights modeled after Mortal Kombat. In the latest episode, Vice President Joe Biden goes toe-to-toe against his Republican challenger Congressman Paul Ryan.

Popular porn destination YouPorn (NSFW) declared today that it will soon be on the Xbox 360 thanks to the introduction of Internet Explorer on Xbox Live later this year. Of course every other website will be accessible via Internet Explorer too - most notably GamePolitics - but you probably already knew that.

The following faux game commercial is over-the-top but admittedly funny in an ironic sort of way. The commercial is for "the greatest real time strategy game never made; Chinese Electronics Factory Worker: The Game!"

The best and most cringe inducing quote from the video is when the young boy playing the game proclaims:

We're not sure if Sony approves of this or not (we're going to guess "not"), but YouTube user FistFullofPotions has created a video showing how to transfer PSOne Classics to PlayStation Vita via PlayStation 3 - including games not included in Sony's list of the nine games "officially" available in North America.

In Episode 5 of the Annoyed Gamer over at GameTrailersTV, Marcus Beer talks about fanboyism and the need for games journalists to grow up a little. It's an interesting episode that makes a lot of good points about how being a fanboy or fangirl is natural and prevalent in other areas of life like politics, favorite sports teams, and favorite brands.

Two French gamers decided that it would be a grand idea to reprogram a Sega Genesis so that every time a player made a mistake or took damage in a game they would get some punishment from shock collars. You can't make this kind of stuff up, folks. Also it goes without saying that you shouldn't try this at home.

The two gamers try everything from Sonic to Golden Axe 3, with amusing results. You'll notice in one of the shots that alcohol might be involved in the production of this little experiment...

According to a recent survey conducted by TechBargains.com (as reported by CED Magazine), 33 percent of cord cutters would not return to cable, even if the cost was drastically reduced. Cord cutters are consumers who have ditched traditional cable television viewing in favor of using online video services such as Netflix and Hulu.

Five months ago kiosk video game and movie rental company Redbox announced a deal with Verizon to create a service to compete with Netflix. Today we learn a little bit more about the service via a freshly launched website. The name of the new service is "Redbox Instant by Verizon," and it will be headed by Shawn Strickland, who served as an executive for Verizon’s FiOS Pay TV service.

Last night 24-year-old James Holmes used four guns (a rifle, a shotgun and two handguns, according police), and tear gas to shoot, disorientate, and trap theater goers attending the opening of The Dark Knight Rising movie at a theater in Aurora, Colorado. The attack left 12 people dead and 38 59 injured. He was arrested outside the theater by police shortly thereafter.

Libertarian-leaning publication ReasonTV has produced an entertaining five minute video about how video games have gone from being murder simulators and the scourge of parents everywhere (accused of causing everything from obesity to the loss of empathy in children, for example) to useful tools in the medical and mental health fields and fine art at museums.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this new video from Andrew Eisen is NSFW. In this episode Andrew has lost the ability to create videos (he doesn't explain the why or how of that) so he tries his hand at creative censorship. The show opens with a clip of a story about Congresswoman Jane Harman (D-California), who wrote a scathing letter to Attorney General Eric Holder because her phone had been wiretapped.
