If you think it's cute to disconnect from Killer Instinct on Xbox Live when you are playing an online match, then you may not be happy to hear that game developer Double Helix wants to put you in jail. Not "you" in the literal sense, but your account.

The next update to Killer Instinct on Xbox One will institute a jail system for players who frequently disconnect in the middle of online matches. Here's how the whole system will work, according to Double Helix:

A U.S. District Court in California has dismissed a class action lawsuit that tried to take Take-Two Interactive and its subsidiary Rockstar Games to task for the delayed launch of the multiplayer component for Grand Theft Auto V - Grand Theft Auto Online.

The lawsuit (McMahon v. Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. et al., C.D. Cal. Case No. 5:13-cv-02032-VAP-SP) was filed on October 4 by Bruce McMahon and Christopher Bengtson, but later moved to the federal court in mid-November.

Electronic Arts has signed a long-term agreement with Professional Game Match Officials Limited that will run until the 2018/19 season and see match officials sporting EA Sports-branded gear, according to an MCV report.

On Friday President Barack Obama gave a speech laying out his plans to curtail the spying activities of the National Security Agency (NSA) on U.S. citizens and on targets abroad. The president promised to reform the agency's programs, but according to a new poll Americans aren't impressed with the president's plan or didn't pay attention to it.

Apple has responded strongly to reports that the National Security Agency claims a "100-percent success rate" in attaching spyware to iOS apps. The revelation about the NSA's targeting of Apple products comes from a recent Der Speigel report featuring leaked documents from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden provided to various journalists. The NSA program targeting Apple products is called DROPOUTJEEP, and allows the agency to intercept SMS messages, access contact lists, locate a phone using cell tower data, and even activate the device’s microphone and camera.

Imagine buying your child a 3DS for Christmas and finding pornography on it... That's what happened to one parent, according to WAVY News 10. On Christmas morning Tom Mayhew's 8-year-old son decided to snap some pictures with his new 3DS. When he went to go look at the photos he'd taken he found a dozen pornographic images saved on the system.

Google passed along a note letting us know that its petition on the White House web site has surpassed 107,000 signatures. The "We The People" petition calls for the White House and lawmakers to give the stuff we store online the same legal protections (Fourth Amendment) as the stuff we store offline. The petition only needed 100,000 signatures to ellicit a response from the White House at some point in the future, so it is good that it has passed this particular milestone.

United States President Barack Obama is expected to meet with Microsoft executive vice president Brad Smith, Zynga co-founder Mark Pincus, and executives from Facebook, Apple, Comcast, Netflix, and Google. The President will discuss the roll-out of the HealthCare.gov web site and how the government can partner with technology companies in the future (something that probably should have been discussed prior to the website's less-than-stellar launch earlier this year), and about surveillance issues.

Sony Online Entertainment announced that its next annual fan gathering, SOE Live 2014, will be held at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas from Aug. 14 - Aug. 17, 2014. The 2014 event will celebrate 15 years of SOE's games, with activities and events that revolve around its line-up of games including DC Universe Online, Dragon's Prophet, EverQuest, EverQuest II, PlanetSide 2, Vanguard Saga of Heroes and the upcoming EverQuest Next Landmark and EverQuest Next.

Google sent out a call to action today urging internet users to sign a petition on Whitehouse.gov demanding that the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) be reformed to include more protections for online activity and to reflect the change in the way people use the Internet. As is the case with petitions on the site, the White House is only obligated to respond once the petition has reached 100,000 signatures. As of this writing the petition has 43,928 of the signatures it needs by Dec. 12.

The party is officially over for PS4 The Playroom streaming on Twitch, according to Polygon. The game streaming services company said that it did this because the majority of content coming from the free app was not game related.

"We removed Playroom content from the directory because a majority of it was non-gaming related," the firm has told Polygon.

As PS4 users find new, exciting and sometimes questionable ways to stream content, Twitch shows them who's boss with a handful of bans. Apparently the streaming service is not pleased with some of the content being streamed by a select few PS4 owners. In addition to cracking down on non-gaming content, Twitch has banned a small number of accounts for streaming inappropriate content and inappropriate conversations that go against parts of its terms of service.

Sony has donated 15 million yen towards relief efforts in the Philippines. The country was hit by Typhoon Haiyan last Friday, which killed an estimated 10,000 people and has left millions affected in some way. Sony Philippines has also donated 400 emergency radios to help communities devastated by the storm.

The Change.org petition to bring Grand Theft Auto V to the PC continues to garner a respectable amount of support. As of this writing the petition has over 600,000 supporters, up from 500,000 a month ago. GTA V was released a month ago on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, generating $800 million in 24 hours and more than $1 billion in three days. PC gamers want in on that action, but Rockstar continues to be quiet on the subject.

The beta version of Nvidia ShadowPlay will be available Oct. 28 alongside version 1.7 of the GeForce Experience software, Nvidia announced today.

A newer Nvidia graphics card like the GeForce GTX 600 series or higher is required because it uses the GPUs on those cards that feature an on-board H.264 video encoder Nvidia says that the software is capable of recording footage (in the background) at up to 60 frames per second in 1080p, with a performance hit of between 5 and 10 percent.

A new video detailing the National Security Agency's (NSA) broad spying programs on Americans will be on display tonight at 9:00 PM ET in Manhattan, projected onto a building for everyone to see. Internet freedom groups Fight for the Future and Demand Progress have teamed up with Golden Globe nominee Evangeline Lilly (Lost, The Hobbit) to produce a 5-minute crowd funded video that explains the NSA’s surveillance programs and calls for an end to them.

Adobe says that it has suffered a large scale security breach that may have affected the personal information of an estimated 2.9 million customers. The security breach could have an impact on anyone that develops Flash games or uses any of Adobe's popular software products on a daily basis.

Reuters does not usually check the pulse of Americans when it comes to video games, but a new Reuters/Ipsos poll does just that and the results (if you believe them to be showing a trend) are not good for Microsoft. The poll asked respondents to indicated their interest in dedicated gaming devices. Around 26 percent of the 1,297 people surveyed through an online poll last week indicated that they are likely to purchase a PlayStation 4 when it launches on November 15, compared to 15 percent who said they would buy an Xbox One on November 22.

On October 26 organizers of StopWatchingUs will hold a rally in Washington D.C. on the anniversary of the Patriot Act. StopWatchingUs is a nonpartisan coalition of organizations, individuals, and companies that oppose the unconstitutional mass surveillance being conducted by the National Security Agency. The collective seeks "a full Congressional investigation of America’s surveillance programs, reform to federal surveillance law, and accountability from public officials responsible for hiding this surveillance from lawmakers and the public."
