Killer Instinct player and Fighting Game Community (FGC) member Terrance “PushaTee88” Moore collapsed on Thursday evening while participating in Super Arcade’s The Runback weekly tournament.

NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski will be playing video games against fans next Monday at the Texas Motor Speedway to raise money for the Texas chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities. The competition is part of the charity's "Who’s Got Game?" fundraiser.

Cloud gaming service OnLive has teamed up with the Extra-Life charity to offer gamers a whole day to play its catalog of games for free.  On October 25th, gamers everywhere (including yours truly) will play video games for 24 hours to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Tommy Refenes, one of the co-creators of the indie hit Super Meat Boy, is hosting a fundraising event on the evenings of October 9, 10, and 11th to raise money for his sick mother. Specifically, Refenes says that he is trying to raise enough money to buy his mother a diabetic alert dog because she is having a difficult time with her type 1 diabetes.

Military-focused video games charity Operation Supply Drop has announced a new partnership with UMG Gaming, a veteran-owned provider of LAN events, eSports infrastructure, and hosted competitive gaming tournaments. The first fruits of this new partnership will come to fruition at UMG Nashville, an eSports event to be held on October 10-12 in the Nashville Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, TN.

The Witcher series developer CD Projekt is reiterating its long-held position on the use of digital rights management software in its games. In a new interview with IGN discussing DRM and DLC related to its upcoming RPG sequel The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red 's Michal Platkow-Gilewski said it is as vehemently against using DRM in its products as when it first started making games.

The GoFundMe funding campaign for writer Tom Chick, founder of the popular gaming site and forum Quarter To Three, who has a rare form of stage 4 cancer, has managed to raise $22,211 from 338 people in five days. The campaign has another five days to go if you are interested in helping Tom out.

The city of Frisco, Texas plans to invest $1 million to bring the Videogame History Museum to town. Founded as a non-profit in 2009 by John Hardie, Sean Kelly, and Joe Santulli, the Videogame History Museum has spent years collecting vintage game software, consoles, and memorabilia to build what some call the "most comprehensive collection of video game memorabilia" ever assembled and share it with the world. The group often loans out parts of its collection to museums and traveling exhibits, but organizers have been hoping to give it a home of its own for a long time.

Rovio has teamed up with Room to Read, a non-profit literacy advocacy group whose goal is to promote reading and gender equality in Asia and Africa. For the next two weeks Rovio will offer a "Good Deed" coin as an in-game purchase for Angry Birds Epic. Rovio will donate $1.40 from each $3.99 purchase to Room to Read to help drive its initiatives abroad.

We often see appeals for people to donate to Child's Play, the charity started by Penny Arcade founders Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, but it's not always clear where that money eventually ends up. But Wane.com offers a good example of how the money donated by the very generous gaming community to Child's Play directly benefits children in hospitals locally.

An interesting report on Polygon highlights the fact that some high-end reward tier backers of the highly successful Kickstarter campaign for Uber Entertainment's RTS game Planetary Annihilation have made their money back.

Comedian Will Ferrell has launched an Indiegogo campaign for "Will Ferrell's SuperMegaBlastMax Gamer Challenge," which lets backers donate money to cancer research for the chance to play video games with Will Ferrell in San Francisco on Oct. 26 for a few hours. An open letter signed by a number of game developers is asking the gaming community at large to respect everyone who plays, criticizes, and makes games. The thrust of the letter is that people should respect each other even when they disagree, and should never tolerate harassment or threats.

The letter is signed by a number of game developers working for such companies as BioWare, Bungie, Boss Key, Google, Sports Interactive, Sony Computer Entertainment America, Oculus VR, Ubisoft, Spry Fox, Vlambeer, EA, Kickstarter, Humble Bundle, and many more.

Nintendo has responded to a petition calling on the company to add Robin Williams as a character in the next Legend of Zelda game. Williams and his daughter Zelda were big fans of the game series and have in the past appeared in Nintendo commercials supporting the franchise and other Nintendo games. Williams was an avid gamer and a big fan of Nintendo's series. His daughter is named after the world famous princess from the game as well.

Dedicated server hosting company RapidSwitch is helping to make a 72-hour Minecraft marathon to benefit AbleGamers this weekend a reality. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF), and HHF’s Leaders on the Fast Track (LOFT) today announced applications are now open for the second annual ESA LOFT Video Game Innovation Fellowship. The program provides minority youths with an opportunity to promote social change through video games, according to the ESA. The Fellowship program will award 20 people between the ages of 15 - 25 with grants to create video games or mobile applications which seek to solve problems that face their communities.

The majority of votes seemed to indicate that almost half of respondents have enough control not to break a controller either because it is defective or because the game someone is playing becomes too frustrating.

ECA Community Manager, prolific podcaster, and all around nice guy Jose Betancourt has a very important episode of his show, The Post Game Report. On the show Jose talks about how sleep apnea affected his life prior to getting it treated. Over the years he described feeling run-down - a feeling he attributed to too much work, schooling, podcasting, and working - and not getting enough sleep.

Bethesda announced today that it has teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive during its annual QuakeCon event. QuakeCon takes place this year at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

The blood drive is inspired by Tango Gameworks' upcoming horror game, The Evil Within - which is set for launch on October 21 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PS4, and PC.

The blood drive event is being called "The Good Within Blood Drive," and will take place July 18 and 19 at QuakeCon.

The Command & Conquer community has launched a server to keep multiplayer going in a number of C&C games that had been abandoned by GameSpy Technologies, who once provided multiplayer services for the popular PC real-time strategy games. According to this Eurogamer report, users interested in playing online can visit C&C: Online, register with Revora and install a launcher which emulates GameSpy servers.

Jennifer Ann’s Group continues to use the medium of video games to promote awareness on the dangers of teen dating violence. Today the nonprofit organization announced the winners of its seventh annual "Life. Love. Game Design Challenge" - as well as the results of its first-ever game jam to create a game that championed its cause of stopping teen violence.

Speed Demos Archive and SpeedRunsLive revealed the dates for their next big Twitch-based charity event, Summer Games Done Quick. Beginning June 22 and running until June 29, a group of friends will gather and try to play and finish a variety of games as quickly as possible, in order to raise cash for Doctors Without Borders. Twitch will stream marathons of the playthroughs throughout the week.

A web site dedicated to helping game developers include accessibility options for disabled players into their games has been honored by the FCC's Accessibility and Innovation Initiative. The site, "Game Accessibility Guidelines" (www.gameaccessibilityguidelines.com), was launched in Sept. of 2012 and has helped bring accessibility options to games of all shapes and sizes - from AAA titles to indie offerings.
